Default is anyone taking Metformin even if there bloodwork is good??

Hi -

My bloodwork came back and it was normal but my Doctor still gave me 500mg of Metformin to take daily. I am ok with that because I was sure my bloodwork would show something since I have been having a great deal of trouble getting weight off. I have not taken metformin since my daughter was born 22months ago and I have tried many diets/exercise but I am only get so far. Is anyone else have a similar situation?? Any suggestions or opinions??

the met might be just enough of a kick in the pants for you to get you over that hump,ya know?

My blood work for the most part came out normal except my level of progestrone was a little low. She gave me a couple of chioces of medication combinations to take and I chose the met.

Default metformin w/normal bloodwork.

Hi,

I was recently diagnosed w/pcos. My blood work also came back normal. Normal insulin levels, great cholesterol the whole deal. My issues are weight, acne, and HAIR!

My dr recommended the South Beach Diet. I am on day 3. Feeling carb deprived right now and kinda weak. Lost 5 lbs already so that is encouraging. I also wrk out 4-5x p/wk.

I am having side effects I think from the metformin. Nausea and diarrhea.
Did you have that?

Carmen

Hi,
All me results came back fine; however, I was still eating barely anything and exercising like a mad women just to keep my weight in line so my doctor believed these contributed to a false nagative reading... I have been on met for 3 months and have lost 4 kilos. I definately rec. giving it ago... although 500mg is not a lot to be using?

Default metformin with good blood work

Carmen,

I am also trying south beach/sonoma diet(they let you have whole grains). Even though the blood work came back normal, I had problems with hair(loss on head and hair where I don't want it) and weight. I am taking 500mg which last time I took 1500mg but I was also trying to get pregnant. I was just diagnosed with Strep so I am taking it easy but once I get better I will dive into exercise and dieting. I also read an article that slow, longer duration workouts are better to lose fat than running like a mad woman so I am going to try long walks at a slower pace. I did get a heart monitor watch to make sure I am in my zone to lose fat. Good luck!! I will post once I see some changes. Going to the Doctor in a month so we will see if she ups for metformin. Also, congrats on the weight loss. Any loss is good!!!
