Default I've tried it!

I tried Rosemary essential oil when I first went on new BCP that I didn't know were highly androgenic (Levlen) and I was losing handfulls of hair a day. I tried using it various ways: neat (straight from the bottle) as a scalp massage (ow!), diluted in my shampoo (nothing), diluted in my vinegar rinse I use when I wash my hair (helped), diluted about 50/50 with olive oil as a scalp massage/treatment before shampooing (helped), and I think that's it.

I really liked the Rosemary oil. I liked the way it smelled and found it relaxing. It tingles a bit on your scalp, which at least gives you a psychosomatic feeling that it's "doing something". It helped my dandruff and sebhorreic dermatitis. And yes, the answer you've been waiting for, I do think it helped slow the hair loss a bit. It wasn't a miracle, but hey... it helped. I found the olive oil treatment most helpful. There's probably tons of recipes if you search the internet.

I had to stop using it though. At the time I wasn't coloring my hair and my roots are naturally darker than the length of my hair. I HATE this and this is why I dye my hair in the first place. Well Rosemary actually, over time, darkened my roots even more until they were almost dark brown (from dark reddish blonde)!! I discontinued it for that reason. If you have light hair and want to keep it that way, rosemary might not be for you.

I say give it a try! It's a cheap essential oil. I think I paid about $6 an ounce for mine and an ounce goes a looooong way. Just go slow and you might want to try it just on a spot, just to make sure you aren't allergic. Strong infusions of rosemary tea poured over your hair as a final rinse is an option as well.

Good luck!!
Dana

i used rosemary oil a while ago for shedding and dry scalp. it was great. you can use it either pre- or post- hairwashing. i found it to be helpful and it really gave my hair a nice luster.

and as dana mentioned, rosemary oil has been used to darken hair naturally for years. i didn't notice this, but then again, i dye my hair blue-black every 6weeks or so.
