Default Anyone tried Proactiv?

My sister-in-law told me that her neighbor uses proactiv for her cyst acne, and she thinks it's the best thing in the world.

Has anyone tried Proactiv, and what were the results?

I know not everyone will say Proactive has done good things for them, but I do think everyones skin is diffrent. I tried it and I still get breakouts every once in awhile. But they do not stay as long. The Proavtive gets ride of them sooner than later. I do like it. I hope it works for you!!!

Default Used it...

It didn't change anything about my breakouts. It actually made my skin a little TOO dry and I got a little itchy. I hear it works great for some people though. Everyone's different I guess.

Default Dry skin

I tried it too - it did seem to help reduce the acne a bit, but it also made my skin very dry. In the end, I decided the results weren't worth the cost, and the irritation of dry skin, so I stopped my subscription. But I'm very susceptible to dry skin anyway, so if you have more normal to oily skin (or willing to use lots of moisturizer - I usually don't like the feel of it) it may work better for you.

Cool

I've used proactiv for about 4-5 years years now - before that Clearzit (from Home Shopping Club). However, Clearzit was way too drying and strong for my sensitive skin. My face actually ballooned from Clearzit, it reddened and swelled - then dried up up my skin badly after the swelling went down. It was horrible. I've had great success with Proactiv. I baught everything too, but I've found that the Repairing lotion is the best bet however if you wanna just get one thing - I put it on once a day, at night before I go to bed. And, on "spots" if zits are really bad in the morning. And keep using it! Don't stop, or it won't help the breakouts at all. And like all acne medication it will cause drying - so, use a moisturizer in the morning. Proactiv brands even have moisturizer if you want it - but I just use Clean & Clear Oil-Free Dual Action Moisturizer - something you can get at Target, or Wal-mart, or any drug store really; its cheaper too, but I love that moisturizer. So like any acne meds - try to spend some money on moisturizer - not only does it keep the drying down, it simply helps the skin too. Haha. I ranted a lot about it - but yes, try Proactive Repairing lotion - once a night if your worried about it drying out your skin too much, and try to get some moisturizer as well. Well, If you decide to use it, I hope it brings you success like it has me.

Love

I started using it 2 months ago and I love it! It doesn't dry my face out at all - and my face is sooooooo much better (i will even go outside without make up now - if you look hard enough you can still see acne scars, but even they are disappearing fast.

Lightbulb proactive among other things.

hi this is christian. i used to battle with acne all the time iwas on acutane antibiotics and tried just about everything you can use. my skin is really clear now with no scars or pigments. praise GOD. here is my advice for you. it works for me. its been the only thing that has worked for me i hope it will for you too. here is my skin regimn: dove soap sensitive skin morning with gentle buff puff buff puff is a must. then use clindagel 1% in morning its prescription ask dermatologist. then at night use proactive wash.and differen gel 0.1% it has worked great with my skin if skin gets too dry skip proactive wash to everyother night. this is what has been great for me . plus desogen bcp. now going on ovcon35 i think it will work even better than desogen since it has less progestin. i will pray for you too. much love. christian.jesus loves you.

I tried that gimmick called proactiv. It's so GD expenisve at 45 bucks a pop it's hardly worth it. all it is is benzyl peroxide 5%. I looked on the gimmicky pamphlets and it said that proactiv was "specially refined high quality benzyl peroxide" what a bunch of crap!

I read in the "clear face guide" that comes with your first shipment that hormones play the biggest role in acne. Not dirt! well, they are disputing their product because isn't that what face washes do? I stopped buying it and use the cheap equate walmart brand and have the same results.

But I must say, what I do like about it is the smell. it's so good!

That's right - I'd forgotten about that. Part of the reason I stoped using Proactive was that the products I used most, the wash, astringent, and lotion, were all basically the same active ingredient you could get at the store, just slightly higher dosage for some of them. But I haven't found anything else that works too well for my acne, so it may be worth a try for you.

Talking absolutely love it!!

I have been using proactiv for about 3 years and it is great for me. I was kind of scared to try it since I had used neutrogena soap for sensitive skin and that was too harsh and drying. For me it was done wonders. My breakouts aren't as bad, I get fewer bumps and the duration of them is much shorter. I had used benzoyl peroxide from my doctor but it just killed my skin. But whatever they do to proactive is working for me.

Cool Proactiv saved me!

It was my mother who ordered ProActiv for me the first time and I have to say that I was not expecting any results with it. And at first...there wasn't any. In fact, for the first month I broke out worse than ever, but since my mother had spent $50-I kept with it. Morning and night. That was almost two years ago. The change was gradual but amazing. I never had terrible acne, but I always had two or three of those big 'ol underground things. I probably haven't had one zit-not so much as a teeny tiny one-in about 18 mos. I too leave the house with no make-up and yesterday the girl at the Lancome counter asked me what I use on my skin to make it look like "peaches and cream?" I actually turned around to make sure it really was me she was talking to! It is amazing what having clear, beautiful skin does for a person. I wear my hair pulled back all the time now, I love to go swimming, to the gym or just lay around and talk to my husband without putting my "face" on first. It might not work for everyone-they do have a money back guarantee, so if it doesn't your not out your money. By the way-I just saw an article on Britney Spears and she uses ProActiv to keep her zits at bay. Not that I'm a fan-but you have to admit...The girl does have nice skin,(and we have all seen enough of her skin to know ; ) hahaha!
Good luck,
Leed

I was reluctant to try Proactiv, because I have tried so many things that just didnt work. And I wont say that Proactiv completely got rid of my acne, but it is almost gone. And when I have an occasional breakout on my face, it goes away quickly and is much smaller to begin with than before. However, it did not get rid of the cysts that I get on my neck along my jawline.

I had VERY clear skin as a kid... so you can imagine my suprise when at 30... I kept breaking out... always about 6 pimples across my forhead and several on my cheeks and chin...

A friend turned me onto Proactive... I ordered the basic kit plus the moisturizer with a 15. I know It's expensive... but I find putting your best face forward has many rewards... including better jobs & more $$$ (I know... it's a sad society we live in sometimes.)

I didn't need the moisturizer for about 2 weeks... it made my face WAY to slick... make-up wouldn't stay on for even an hour... But it did dry my face out a bit... so now I use the moisturizer RELIGIOUSLY... which is great... 'cause one should use sunscreen every day... and before this I couldn't...

So... now my skin is clear... an occasional breakout that fades ultra fast... and I'm protected from the sun...

Woo Hoo!

Hello. Just posting a comment on Proactiv Solution. My cousin gave my Proactiv, and told me to try it. I never did....I basically just let it sit in my medicine cabinet. I used to go tanning about once, or twice a week to control my horrible acne, but I dont have the time or money for that, and also it isnt healthy, so about a month ago, I tried the Proactiv. I wash my face with the cleanser in the morning (it feels excellent.) Then, when I get out of the shower, I put some of the Proactiv astringent on with a cotton ball. I don't even use the third creme, and my acne has cleared up SO much. I never believed the commercials on TV, I always thought it was just a gimmick. Im not even really religious about using it...I just use it once in the morning, and sometimes at night, but not always. Also, to give you an idea of how BAD my acne was........when I was 17, I was put on Accutane, which at the time was one of the stongest pills you could take to clear up Acne. You could barely see my skin I used to have so many zits....and they werent little ones on the surface. They were deep, cystic Acne. Now, my skin looks absolutely amazing, and in just about 31/2 weeks!!! My pours are smaller and my skin is more even-toned, and clear! Well, goodluck!

Default What a disappointment

I tried Proactiv...actually both me and my husband did it for about four months and hadn't noticed any results. I have very sensative skin and have breakouts frequently. I am upset I wasted all that money on it. I especially didn't like the fact they automatically put me in their club and kept sending the stuff to me. But I hear it does work for some people. My husband went back to using the store brand stuff.

The genovese/eckerd brand acne cream works for both of us for getting rid of pimples in about 2-3 days. I also use the Clinique (at Macy's) line, which is somewhat similar to the Proactiv, since it has the different steps (soap, toner, moisturizer). But that works on my skin. It works great on my skin!! I have even gotten compliments on my skin since I started using Clinique. Plus I think it has been around a lot longer than Proactiv. Usually I buy the Clinque make-up and get the free gift bag with the soap, toner and moisturizer. Their make-up is wonderful on my skin since it is for sensative people.

But what works for some doesn't work for all....
