Anyone tried Spironolactone Lotion/Topical Spiro for Hirutism ?
I was wondering if anyone on here has tried topical spironolactone/ or the lotion form of it and was it effective on your hair growth.
I am DESPERATE to do something about this hair. It's like a nightmare for me..I've even got it on my hands and fingers now
My problem is the spironolactone pill is soo yucky for me...It just makes me naseous (this is almost as bad at the met effect-maybe worse cause it lasts all day!) and it's got this sort of cool feeling as it slides down to my stomach and it doesn't go away no matter how much I eat after it

Mechele your PM box is full! I've tried replying to you several times but it won't let me.
Sorry to butt in!!
On topic... There is a topical form of spiro? I had no idea! I'll have to ask my doctor about it. I've tried vaniqa (it's topical) and it worked really well for me.

I think you can get it made from a compounding pharmacy and there are some places on the web that sell it. I did a search on it the other day and saw a couple...
What I'm not sure about is the efficacy though..whether it's as effective as oral spiro.

I've never heard of this oral spiro... does it work well (besides the side effects)? Did you ever try the topical Vaniqa? If so, do you think it works any better?

Kim oral spiro (spironolactone or aldactone) is just the pills..
Topical spiro/ spironolactone lotion is harder to get ahold of I think... it's used mostly for men..because I think the spironolactone pills reduce the amount of testosterone in your blood which could have disastrous effects for a man...
Most of the studies saying that spironolactone reduces hirutism have been done with the pills too.

I've heard of topical spiro being used to grow back scalp hair. But I don't think it's very wide-spread. Apparently it's pretty stinky in solution. I think you can check out Dr. Lee's site for more info.
Here's a link for info about the spiro lotion used for AGA. It doesn't talk about using it for excess hair, but there may be some other useful info on his site.
