Default Anyone Try Calcium D-Glucarate?

Anyone heard of the supplement calcium D-Glucarate? It's used mainly to prevent breast cancer by detoxifying the body of harmful toxins especially estrogen. I thought it might be a very interesting supplement to mention for us PCOS women since it has been theorized by many that the ultimate source of PCOS is caused by xenoestrogens ( fake estrogens) that messes with the pituitary gland ( although the insulin theory is also important). Many advocates of natural progesterone cream like the late Dr. John Lee said that women these days are literally swimming in a sea of xenoestrogens which is what causes so many hormonal cancers and problems like breast cancer, PMS, endometriosis, hypothyroidism and possibly even PCOS. His solution for estrogen dominance has always mainly been the use of natural progesterone cream to balance out estrogen. But I've been thinking that if high circulating estrogen levels which are not being eliminated from the body is the cause to all of these problems, then wouldn't using natural progesterone cream be like doing an oil change without actually changing the oil? That you're only putting new oil over the old oil? Even if progesterone is used, the xenoestrogens are still there and being absorbed ( from the air, pollution, pesticides, hormone-fed cows and chickens etc). So I think that calcium d-glucarate could be an interesting supplement to try out if progesterone hasn't been working for you or if you just don't want to add hormones in your body. Here is an article about calcium d-glucarate:

"Calcium D-glucarate is the calcium salt of D-glucaric acid, a natural substance found in many fruits and vegetables. Calcium D-glucarate has been shown to inhibit beta-glucuronidase, an enzyme found in certain bacteria that reside in the gut. One of the key ways in which the body eliminates toxic chemicals as well as hormones such as estrogen is by attaching glucuronic acid to them in the liver and then excreting this complex in the bile. Beta-glucuronidase is a bacterial enzyme that uncouples (breaks) the bond between the excreted compound and glucuronic acid. When beta-glucuronidase breaks the bond, the hormone or toxic chemical that is released is available to be reabsorbed into the body instead of being excreted. An elevated beta-glucuronidase activity is associated with an increased risk for various cancers, particularly hormone-dependent cancers like breast, prostate, and colon cancers.

Research Overview

Calcium D-glucarate shows the following effects:

1. Normalizes estrogen metabolism
2. Is involved with lipid lowering
3. Reduces risk of breast cancer
4. Reduces risk of colon cancer
5. Reduces risk of prostate cancer
6. Reduces risk of liver cancer
7. Inhibits metastases of tumors
8. Reduces serum cholesterol levels
9. Is non-toxic chemoprevention
10. Is non-toxic chemotherapy

I would love to know more. I can't tolerate excess estrogens in my system and now that I am older and have less, my symptoms are more under control. BCP's make my symptoms a lot worse.
Do you know if this is available now, ie...GNC or something?

Yes calcium d-glucarate is available in supplemental form. Just do a search on google.com and you'll find that you can buy it at several places. I think they have it at vitaminshoppe.com. I don't shop at GNC but they might have it. It's becoming an increasingly popular supplement and many companies are starting to include it in their products. The Life Extension Foundation www.lef.org sells this product and has included it in their multivitamin life extension mix. I think I might give it a try. I've been using natural progesterone cream for some time with good results but it makes more sense to me to detoxify the real culprit in the whole estrogen dominance/progesterone thing. By simply adding progesterone, yes you help counteract the negative effects of estrogen dominance but the excess estrogen is still there, so you're just adding more stuff over old stuff. I don't know...seems like an interesting supplement to try.

I started taking Calcium D Glucarate in April because my Estrogen level was 151. I took it for 2 months and it went down to 120. Estrogen is supposed to be in the 50-60 range. The calium D Glucarate not only lowered my estrogen level but it also lowered my progesterone level. In April my prog level was 8 and in June it was 6 and both times I was supplementing with natural progesterone cream. I am glad it is lowering my estrogen but not so happy about the progesterone. My Dr. recommended that I take the Calcium D Glucarate prior to O and then stop until AF arrived and then start again.
