My dermatologist prescribed it this afternoon. Tonight will be my first use, and I am a little freaked out about it. Apparently for the first month I might experience redness (AGH, already have that problem!) and the first 2-4 weeks my acne will probably get worse (!!!). I guess if it works for the long-term I will go with it, but I am not looking forward to the first month.

Tretinoin the generic of sub retin-A 0.025%, so you might be using a different brand, but same medication. What are your experiences?

Oh, and I was using Proactive Jan/Feb. It worked like a charm at first, but then I started getting oily and red again. I'll have to cancel my next shipment Now I am trying J&J Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash and following that up with Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer (+ applying the Tretinoin at night)

Hi, I am currently using tretinoin gel0.01%, so far I haven't it cleared up a few of my acne, this would make me a month using this gel, we haven't seen to much of a change so my dr. recommend retin a cream to me.

keysfergy, I hope that works for you. Mine is a very lightweight cream, and felt good going on....so far it is doing ok, but this is after just the first application. My dermatologist got onto me for picking my face, so hopefully I can keep my hands off of it.

The tretinonin is WONDERFUL - for me - yes, for the first month or two you tend to get very dry gross feeling skin, and yes the acne got worse - but now I love my skin. I still have the odd breakout - but I just had my babies 2 months ago and I am still getting my hormones in check - LOL!

Find a very light and nice moisturizer, splurge if you have too, cause this stuff will cause your skin to dry out like crazy!

But if you ever become pregnant, stop using it!!!

Good Luck!

Wow, good deal! I can buck up this first one or two months if I feel the same way about my skin that you do yours! The moisturizer I'm using now has always been my tried and true stand-by, so hopefully it'll still cut the mustard with this medication. DH and I are hoping in the next year or two that I'll become pregnant, and I did see on the directions that this is not to be used pregnnat. What did you use while preggo?

BTW your twins are gorgeous!

thanks so much!

while I was pregnant, the acne wasnt too bad to be honest!!

I used Spectro-Gel to wash my face, then I would use a clean and clear deep cleaning astringent after I washed. Then to moisturize I would use Reversa cream with 10% gycolic acid.

Even now I am still doing this same routine and it seems to be holding up well and I also went back on BCP.

I saw my gyne today and she wants me OFF Tretinoin since my cycles are straightening out and I could become pregnant any time. I knew this was not something to take pregnant, and I was just assuming it was ok to stop whenever I get the BFP. She doesn't think that is a great idea. Welp, there goes that (and for good reason!).

I am kind of relieved because I have been breaking out HORRIBLE. HUGE white mountains.

Back to square one. She recommended I take an antibiotic pill. She said she took them as a teen and cleared her right up. Anyone have experience with these?

Meghan - Sorry to hear about having to discontinue the cream - but its a small price to pay in the big scheme of things, when you are pregnant - you'll be glad you are not taking any risks.
In saying that - I know how sucky and self-conscience I felt with my acne.
What antibiotic??

there are a few that I have seen:

sulfatrim
doxycyline
tetracycline

Let me know and I can look up in my pharmacy text books on what they say about these.

Jenn

Hi I was taking Tetralysal 300 antiotics and using Retin_A 0.1% gel until August/September last year. I agree the gel did dry my skin and make it red to begin with but my skin totally cleared up within 6 months (I was told it takes 2 1/2 to 3 months to get results). I came off the treatment after around 6 months as i was all cleared up and at that point I was on the pill so I had no idea that there may be an underlying cause to my acne, now my acne is back and I cannot go back on either of the treatments as none of them can be used when ttc or pregnant, but they definitely worked for me, its well worth the redness
