I was dx w/PCOS 12/06 and the dr found cysts, polyps, and that I had endometriosis. We were done having kids so he suggested a full hysterectomy and I agreed. He didn't put me on any meds at first other than estrogen (I can't take BCP due to stroke risk). I finally got him to agree to put me on Spironolactone but he refused to try Met or any other drug because I'm not obese.
Since my hyst I have felt better (not so yucky and hormonal all the time) but my sex drive is GONE! and I feel a little bit "bummed out" or sad. I decided to dump my dr and find a new one. I met a friend that has PCOS too and she has given me her dr name. I made an appt for this friday and I hope that she can actually help me.
My question is if you have had a hysterectomy and have PCOS, what meds do you take? I assume that it would be similar to everyone else (met, clomid, etc).
Special note: Since my hysterectomy I have done so much reading on the subject and had I done that first I would NOT have agreed to have it done. My other option would have been to have a DNC every 4 months or so for the extremely painful endo and have any future polyps removed and screened for cancer. I believe that this would have been a better choice even though it involved more surgeries. I feel like a huge part of me is "missing" or something and I pray that I will never have any of the medical issues that can happen after a hysterectomy is done.

Mine was an emergency hyster after a severe infection set in after my delivery. I had gone into heart failure at the end of my pregnancy so it was strongly advised that I not get pregnant again anyway. I also had 6 fibroids that were the size of the baby's head by delivery.
I kept my ovaries, but I too, have no sex drive whatsoever. I'm not sure if some of it stems from having a young child. I am not on anything for my PCOS right now. I lost 65 pounds during my pregnancy. However, I have now put all but 10 back on and am ready to go in and ask if I can go back on metformin. However, I see no reason why you would go on clomid. I wasn't on it even to get pregnant. Right now, I take medicine for my heart failure, but that's it.
There are a hand full on the boards who have had a hysterectomy.
Includding myself.
Your story is very simular to mine.
I am not on any meds for hormones.
I am worse while on them.
I am so much better after the surgery.
Of course I had gone through the loss stages as you are hnow, "Only knowing then what I know now".
It is hard.
For me I had a harder time when I had my tubes tied in 1996.
It was within the first year my PCOS symptoms appeared.
I had no support system until 2001 when I found SoulCysters.
I have since found information on TubalLigationSyndrome that mirrors PCOS.
I am now on a new med called Janumet for insulin Resistance.
I take Cymbalta for cronic muscle/nerve pain.(Suspected Fibromyalgia)
Robaxin for muscle/joint spasiums.
Once you find the way to tell yourself you had to do what you did for your over all health, the sooner you can grieve the loss and start your new life.
Over all I am 90% better than pre-hysterectomy, but it did take me 3-4 years and many diff trys of meds to find an overall improvement.
I have to be careful with met like products because it causes muscle pain.
As for lack of sex drive, I do still have a drive, but can't go anywhere with it because of nerves in my hip areas that lock up in certain positions. It feels like the worse charlie horse cramp times 10!! Horrible pain.
Let me know if there are any questions I can answer.

Hey--
I had a hysterectomy and I am so so glad I did!! Your quote about having medical problems after a hysterectomy just makes me think--well I had them before the hysterectomy so I could have different ones after but my quality of life is so much better. I do not think I could have made it unless I had one. I am on estrogen pellets, met, flutamide, cymbalta, wellbutrin---
I hear adding testosterone helps people with their labido.
Hugs
Patti
