michelle--the class sounds pretty interesting. i can not wait for us to start them. today my DH broke down a little and went to SAMs and bought this big stuffed lion that stands up as decoration...we saw during the week but didnt buy it...but today he suggested we go get it To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. we alway both wanted a jungle themed room for our first kiddo...so when we saw it we both fell in love! but thats all we bought so far. maybe yall will be certified before christmas and get to have a little one to give a great christmas too...i think that would be pretty special!
kimmy--your story gave me goose bumps! what an incredible blessing that God has given you and your DH. and it will be so special for your son & daughter to grow up so close in age! it truely is a beautiful story! thank you so much for sharing!
Acohan--it took my DH almost a whole year before he warmed up to the idea of adoption...and now he is falling in love with the idea of being able to help children in need while building our family! but when i first brought it up...to him it felt like i was giving up on wanting biological children. he just didnt see it the way he does now, it was hard for me to give him the time he needed to come around to it. but i give God all the credit for his heart change on the idea of adoption! good luck and keep us updated!

I don't think I will ever give up trying for my own pregnacy. But I will start the adoption process soon. My FIL was adopted at the age of 2 and he is very excited and happy that we were talking of adoption. While he may not have had the best experience, he still has a strong sense of connection and understanding of the value of family. I have seen the good and the bad of adoption. I have an adopted sister I no longer have contact with, and I went to school with well adjusted much loved adopted children.
DH used to work for a residential school for children and teens with behavioral issues so he has definately seen the worse that kids can do. And he is so good with the kids in our families that I can't wait to give him his own problem child!
Christina: I bet the room will be so cute! Thats a great theme for each gender since there won't be time to plan ahead. I would love to have a little one around for Christmas but we agreed we wouldn't take a placement until the first of the year. We will be moving and starting new jobs so we want to be settled first.
Kimmy: I have been lurking on the Adoption boards for a while and have been following your story. It's is AMAZING to say the least. God definitely had that one all planned out. I think it's so cute that they will be raised like twins.
Weirdsnow: I'm like you. I will not give up on having my own but I have an overwhelming desire to have a family now so we are on our way. Good Luck!!

How exciting for you and your DH that you have already started the process! Are yall taking the classes now or are yall already certified!?! I'd love to hear more about your situation...I think it would be great to have some buddies to go through the process with!!

Hi ladies, this thread has had me curious for awhile and I finally decided to post. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Up until very recently, I said that I didn't want to adopt because I wanted to know what a child that was the product of my husband and me would look like. I also used to say I only wanted one child. But lately, I've been thinking I would like one biological child and one adopted one. DH brought up a good point - he said "If we're going to have one, I'd rather have 2 so it's not brought up as an only child." (He has 2 older sons from a previous marriage, who, likely by the time I conceive and give birth, will be out on their own.) I would rather have a biological child before an adopted one - not that I think I would love an adopted child any less, but I just worry that (God forbid) if I'm unable to conceive I would always wonder what our biological child would look/be like, and I don't want to project that onto my adopted child. I hope that didn't sound cruel or selfish!

"I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him." I Samuel 1:27
Jenjen-- i don't think it sounds cruel. It's a very big and personal decision. Everyones views on adopting or even ttc are always going to be different. I think it's great that you can be honest with yourself about how you might feel later in life...better than just doing it even though you have concerns about how you'd feel if you never gave birth! Good luck with ttc and congrats on thinking of adoption!

Christina, I started reading Adopted For Life again it just breaks my heart when I read about those babies in Russia (and all over the world I'm sure) who just sit in their beds and rock themselves. I thought we'd do domestic adoption but I have to admit I've been thinking of international. I wonder how much longer the process is than domestic.

I would love to adopt too. Over this past year while TTC, DH was at first resistant to the idea. But, to my surprise, he has changed his mind. So I've started web searching, looking for local agencies and evaluating the cost.
I think him seeing me struggle (emotional roller coaster) this past year has put it in perspective.
OK, I'm going to buy that book right NOW. Y'all keep talking about and it sounds like a good read.
Jen: It doesn't sound selfish at all. My DH felt the same way for a long time. He was bound and determined to have our own first and adopt one to round out our herd. For a lot of us, the emotional/physical toll of TTC hits quickly. It took him a little longer but he finally realized that, hey, we can do both at the same time! I think he hit a point where he just wants to be a dad. I feel like adoption takes careful consideration so congrats on beginning that part!!
Charmain: I bet you are so excited to get it all going!! Getting the homestudy done is usually the longest part, at least in Tx. What age/gender do you want?
Oceanic: I believe International ado. can take a bit longer because of all the government interference and what country you want to adopt from. I don't know what age you are thinking about but if you request an infant, they are usually between 9-12 months before they get to come home with you.
Ok going to get the book!!!!

We are wanting an infant maybe up to two years old depending on the situation. I would LOve to do domestic infant adoption but that is WAY out of our price range. WE are open to either sex....nope not picky at all...LOL

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't necessarily need an infant, I would take a child under 2 or 3.
By the way, the book is a Christian book. The author weaves the adoption of his two sons in with the story, but mostly it's about Christ. Just so you know. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
