Question Anyone wax or sugar with oily skin?

I thought I'd make my first post my most urgent (currently, anyway) question. Does anyone with oily skin wax or sugar facial hair? I sugar my legs, but I just cannot, for the life of me, get waxing or sugaring to work on my face, even when I let the hair grow out to about the length of my leg hair (I test this on my eyebrows of course - NO way I'm leaving my mustache or chin hairs go that long! LOL). If so, HOW do you get past oily skin, or is there something else I'm missing?? Like I said, I have no problem with my legs... why so much hassle with my face?

I hate shaving facial hair, but I have no choice.. if I took the time to pluck my mustache it'd take forever.. though I usually pluck my chin hairs. Urrghh, I have the joy of being a dark haired Portuguese girl AND a PCOSer, so I was doomed from the start in the hair department.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Julia

Hi Julia! I am a fellow Portuguese PCOS-er, and I know what you're going through. One trick I've discovered with dealing with waxing oily skin is to wash the area with mild, non-greasy soap. Pat dry, then using paper towels or cotton balls, wipe the area with rubbing alcohol. Allow to air dry, then apply a light dusting of baby powder or cornstarch, not a lot or the wax won't stick. After waxing, wipe the area again with rubbing alcohol, and apply a light moisturizer or lotion. The alcohol also gets rid of bacteria which could otherwise infect your pores. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with normal or dry skin. It's something that works for me, since I always look like an oil-spill has taken place on my face! Hope this works for you.

I am pretty oily and I wax. I think the most important thing to me is the type of wax (brand). I have tried MANY, as my mom is a cosmetologist. The best I have ever found is called GiGi All Purpose Honey Microwave Formula. I LOVE it! I have been using it for years. I have tried some of their other products (Sugar Bare, stripless wax, etc.) and did not like them as much, and I have tried all of the brands that stores like Wal Mart sells....

GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks for the tip I use alcohol occasionally for cleansing my face, but wasn't sure if it'd have any negative effects with hair removal. Hopefully this'll help! I'm not sure if I'll be able to stand to let my chin or mustache hairs grow long enough to wax it all.. but at least it'd make my eyebrows easier for now - I have a lot of trouble with it because of bad vision without glasses.

Glad someone can relate to my woes

Thanks, I will look for that if I can't get what I use on the rest of my body to work.. is it pricy, and can you use cloth strips?

Nah...it is only about 10 dollars and it would last probably six months just doing your face. I do my eyebrows and chin and it lasts FOREVER!

YES you can use cloth strips too (that is what it is made for)
