No one on my fathers side at all, and only a cousin on my mums side. But my grandad was an only child born in the 1920's which raises suspicion that perhaps his mother had infertility problems, No birth control back then!

People that have had positive diagnosis for PCOS in my family include my older sister, one of my aunts and one of her daughters. Looking at the obvious symptoms, people who have not had a positive diagonsis (or have not chosen to share their diagnosis with the family) include an aunt on my father's side, my great grandmother on my mother's side, and my younger sister.
My father has three female siblings. All of my aunts had hirsutism, although none of them were diagnosed with PCOS. I have two female cousins that both have severe hirsutism, one is over weight. I imagine that all of the women on my father's side have PCOS. I am the only one who advocated for my health.

My older sister has it. My youngest half sister on my dad's has it as well. I suspect my mom has it. She had to be on bcp before AF would come and she said she wasn't on bcp's for a long time and didn't conceive. We all have different signs and symptoms. My older sister has periods without bcp's. They are some what regular and she has mild hirsutism. She does have IR and huge huge cysts. My youngest half sister had a period for 2 years straight, then 2 years of AF missing. She has pretty bad hirsutism but does not have IR, nor does she have polycystic ovaries.

The only diagnosed relative I have is my cousin Christina she is my father's youngest sisters daughter. Our symptoms are similair but not the same. I do think more of the women on my father's side have PCOS but really don't know for sure as far as I know Christina and I are the only 2 to even be tested. As for my mom's side of the family I really don't see any who are even a possible. Though I have a lot of friends and coworkers who have PCOS. It amazes me how many I run into who have it and even more how many don't even know until I send them down the road to find out. I was just talking to a coworker the other day who I've long thought might have it but never found a way to bring it into a conversation. She said she and her boyfriend have been trying to have a baby for 7 years...even so much to have him tested(he's fine). But since she has no insurance and semi normal periods never thought the problem could be her. I'm working on conviencing her that yes she can afford our insurance and getting her into a dr. Trying to have a baby or not if she has PCOS she needs to know.

I know that my mom and cousin have it. My mom had some of the same symptoms as me (totally crazy periods, insulin resistance) but not all (she also struggled with her weight but I never have, although her weight problems didn't crop up until her late 20s and I'm still in my early 20s so I guess we'll see how that goes). My mom had fertility problems but I've never been TTC, so I'm not sure how alike we are there. I suspect I'll have problems conceiving, because without BCP I only have like one period every two years. And then it's super awful. My mom responded well to Met but it didn't do a thing for me.
I'm not super close with my cousin but I do know that she has a pretty bad weight problem. Honestly I don't know if it's because of PCOS or because of her lifestyle. I've noticed extra hair and a bit of hair loss, too. No problems conceiving, though.
My mom suspects that her sisters and mother have it, but the talks she's had with them have pretty much gone unnoticed. If my aunts have been diagnosed, they haven't been very proactive about treating it.
Of course, other people in my family could have it without my knowing.

No. it pisses me off. My mom didnt have it. none of my cousins /aunts have it.. so its frustrating. they can all have kids but i have never gotten preg. and they are way younger and on thier 3rd. (not complaining or anything, just state the facts LOL)
In the late fifties my paternal Grandmother had a hysterectomy because that was what was done then for people with PCOS. Doctors then seemed to believe that removal of the uterus would cure almot every female problem.
She had three children but from the long intervals between it would apper that she had some difficulty conceiving. Of those three children, the only one still alive is my Aunt who definitely shows signs of having PCOS, as do her two daughters.
My Dad and his brother were both diabetics and both died from heart attacks before the age of 60 -- perhaps that's the male equivalent of PCOS.
My Dad also had an Aunt (his Father's sister) who never had children and who had a nine pound ovarian cyst removed when whe was 81. She had some of the outward signs of PCOS. Two of her sisters were diabetic though neither appeared to have PCOS.
I suspect that my Dad and his siblings got genes from both their Father and Mother that gave them a predisposition for either diabetes, or PCOS, or both, and that they've passed that on to my generation.
I don't appear to have any of my Mom's genes at all and though there is heart disease in her family, there isn't any history of PCOS or diabetes. I don't look like my mother, I look like my paternal Grandmother in every way including body shape.
My sister has it also, almost all the same symptoms as me except her weight problem is worse (which I believe is more because of laziness). A few of my other members have a sign or two but nothing more.
Both my sister and I are the black sheep, everyone else reproduce like rabbits (4+ kids is the norm.) except us.
