Hi ladies!

I just had a few questions for anyone out there who has had an appetite suppressant prescribed.

My OBGYN got some labs bad and my LDL was 344. She said she didn't feel it was high enough to put me on any medication to treat it. I think she is really trying to get me to lose weight. She has talked about prescribing me an appetite suppressant for a while now, so she laid out the conditions to which I can obtain it.

The conditions that she will give me an appetite suppressant are:

1) I see their nutritionist to map out something very close to the IR diet

2) I can join Weight Watchers and use the IR principles to help plan my own meals.

My questions are: 1) Has anyone taken an RX appetite suppressant? What was it like? Did you see drastic results with diet/exercise changes?

2)Or did it make you jittery? Anxious? I'm a little worried about how it's going to make me feel.

HI!!! I've tried Phentermine & Byetta. Phentermine was great for me but it's def not for everyone. I was on a a low dose 15 mg 1x and sometimes 2x a day & didn't really have too many side effects after the first week. I was never jumpy, but I noticed a huge energy increase. I did have trouble sleeping after being on it for a while, so then the doc gave me Ambien. About that time I decided that I didn't want to get into a cycle of uppers & downers so I quit taking it. Also, it's effectiveness wears off after a while b/c you body adjusts to it. I lost weight, but I did gain some back when I stopped taking it. I think I would have kept the wieght off, but I was side lined with a leg injury & couldn't excercise for 3 months & quit smoking at that time too. Phentermine can be very helpful as an appetite supressant, but you'll need to be closely monitored on it b/c it can cause serious side effects.

I started Byetta 4 weeks ago & LOVE it! I have the 5 pen & do 2 injections 2x a day. There's a Byetta thread w/ lots of great info, you should check it out. I haven't had many side effects on Byetta, just a full feeling after eating small amounts of food, YAY! I never feel hungry and rarely snack. So far I've lost approx 10 lbs, the amt I gained after I quit smoking. I have about 20 more to go. I am an excercise addict, but it's been super hard for me to lose weight prior to taking Byetta or Phen even though I excercise so much. Byetta is great if your doc feels you are a good candidate & you agree to be closely monitored.
