Appointment with a new GYN tomorrow, need opinions...
I have my first appt. with a new GYN tomorrow (she is apparently a Dr. of Osteopathy (?) though I'm not 100% sure what that means). She was recommended to me by my best friend, so I thought I'd give her a try. It's not an appt. directly related to my PCOS, just a pelvic exam, etc. But obviously I am going to bring it up. Seeing as when I saw my family physician (who diagnosed me), I did not tell him about ALL the hair I have, I want to be completely honest with this new Dr. I am just wondering what I should do. I have a fair amount of hair on my stomach and breasts, and I wonder if I should shave it off or go natural to my appointment. I mean, even with it shaved, you can still tell there's SOMETHING wrong with me :-P And I want her to get a clear idea of my symptoms. I also feel much more comfortable when I have done everything in my power to hide my excess hair. Even though I know, as a dr., she probably couldn't care less how much fuzz I have on me.
Overall I am just terribly nervous. I was supposed to have done this a couple months ago with my family doctor, but because of a mess-up in the office, my appointment was scheduled wrong. I am glad I am finally going, and at the same time I am scared to death.

If you can hold off until after your gyno appt tomorrow, I would wait then to shave but believe me, I know how it feels to not want the hair on your body. A Dr. of Osteopathy is someone that specializes in the bone or bone disease. Osteo means bone in medical terminology. Good luck tomorrow and try not to be scared. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Awww, don't be scared! My gp is an osteopath, btw. Anyway, I just wanted to wish you good luck at your apt. I have one tomorrow too at the endo.

Osteopaths aren't the same as MDs--it is like a paralell educational track. They come from the same tradition as chiropracty, originally. See http://www.academyofosteopathy.org/ for info. Not my cuppa, but it may fit your philosophy of medicine.
(blue74dolphin is right about the latin root, but bone docs are orthopedists for some reason!)

We'll see how it goes. I figured I would trust my friend's recommendation first, since she thinks highly of this dr. Rather that then get a referral and end up with someone I hate :-P

Kim,
A friend's reference is the best way to find a new one, for sure! I have "tried out" 2 in the past 4 years, and am not 100% satisfied with this one, but no friends use any doctors near me, dangit. But I like my RE, so I guess it's even...
Best of luck tomorrow!

Just to let you guys know, I just got back from my appointment. I'd say it went very well. She was incredibly nice, very laid back, and I think she did a good job of trying to keep my mind off things. It was over and done with fairly quickly. I'm glad I went to her instead of having my regular dr. do it. Overall, I'd say it was a good experience

osteopathy from what i know, looks at the bone structure and manipulates bones into the right place. i have heard of attention and beharioural disorders being 'cured' by this practice. however, i assume that ur dr is a gyn coz there's not much call for osteopaths? like specialises in osteo, but is a gyn to support the family?coz i dnt see how the 2 are related.
