Any PCOS'ers have any experience with Apri birth control pill? I think the brand name is Desogen? I am only on it for about 2 months due to starting IVF in July. I just hate the "idea" of bcp's.

Desogen was the first bcp I was ever on and it was horrible. It messed with my hormones BIGTIME. When dropping a pencil on the floor at work caused me to burst into tears I knew that desogen was not for me! I called that afternoon to get put on a different kind, lo-estrin 1.5/30. I'm not trying to scare you, everybody reacts differently to things. But if you start to get really over-emotional it might be due to the pill. At least you only have to be on it for a couple of months. Good luck!

Planned parenthood tried to place me on desogen - its on the category X list - so if you are TTC - and you get preggo while on it it can cause your child to be born with birth defects.

Going on BCP's is the proto-call for IVF. I do not ovulate on my own so I will not be getting pregnant while on them.

I have been on Apri for about 9 months now and i have not had any problems. I did not gain weight, i lost 40 pounds in the last year and was able to start apri and maintain the weight. No bad side effects for me. I was on a min-pill for about 3 months prior to starting apri andit was horriable i would have breakthrough bleeding every other week. So i am happy with apri
I took it for a couple of years and had no known problems. I tried other before that Ortho-tri and one other that made me "crazy" with anger and emotions not fit for a newlywed. Then I found Apri and it "mellowed" me out. The only reason why I'm not on it now is because my list visit concerned my PCP. I had high blood pressure and she said that being on BCP for a while could increase blood pressure, so we are trying YAZ because of the low estrogen.

I had breakthrough bleeding on it pretty quickly--I need higher estrogen to prevent the spotting. Wasn't thrilled with my lower sex drive on it, either...
