Default Arm Waxing...to do or not to do.

I've dealt with hairy arms my entire life...and i've come to terms with it! But, it almost seems if i just waxed them, I'd feel so much better and not like EVERYONE was always staring at my arms. Does anyone wax their arms? Any advice? Do it yourself or professionally? Any side effects? I'm also a little concerned to have hairy arms one day...and then not the next..

And by "side effects" I mean more, negative reactions!

My arms aren't super hairy and dark, but if I didn't remove the hair it would get pretty long on the lower part of my arm. I've used Nair and other at home ones like that but they also end up giving me a sort of chemical burn! I was bleeding all these little dots. So most of the time I just do a quick shave over my arms like once every few weeks (as mine isn't growing out of control) and it has not come back thicker or darker!

good luck!

I waxed mine before. I used surgi wax, and it was pretty easy. I've always waxed everything myself. On my arms, it all but stopped growing back in about a year ago. What regrowth that is there now is like white fuzz that I can only see when I hold my arm to the light. I don't know if I can thank the wax for that, or another factor.

I've been waxing my arms for years but I just recently stopped because I had laser hair removal. I was able to wax my arms the first time myself because I had been waxing other areas before so I was pretty familar with the proper technique. You may want to consider going to a salon the first time if you're not used to waxing . If you decide to do it yourself, I find that prewaxed strips are easiest to use and not as messy, plus you don't run the risk of burning yourself. The only "side effect" I notice is my skin gets a bit itchy around the treated area. Other than that, I've never had a problem. Personally, I prefered waxing my arms to shaving.

I echo what furrygirl said. I got mine waxed at a salon several times to observe the proper way to do it. I bought a professional wax heater, and I buy the cans of wax that fit in the heater and the big rolls of muslin that I cut into strips. I get them all at Sally's . It's works out to be much cheaper that way. I've tried pre-wax strips, but I've never had much luck with them. The hot wax works best for me.

I get a few bumps around the bend in my arm after waxing. They pop up about a day after I wax and last a day or two, sort of like razor burn. Seems like I got very red all over the first couple of times, but now it hardly phases me.

I used to shave my arms and THAT is what people noticed, not when they were hairy.

People would look at my hairless arms and make comments like, "OMG! Do you shave your arms or something?"

No one has ever really noticed or commented on them since I stopped.

Then again, my arms really aren't all that hairy.

My upper lip and chin on the other hand....

my arms were very hairy too. I waxed them...I waxed them myself and I had it done at salons from time to time. I honestly think my arm hair thinned quite a bit from waxing. Right now I'm having laser hair removal done.

This is the same reaction I have had when I waxed my arms so I have just waxed them a few times in winter so it's lighter when it comes to wearing sleevless shirts for summer.

I waxed my arms once with cold wax strips. It turned out good and I had no negative reaction. But, it was too much trouble to continue with. Now I trim them with one of those little hair trimmers.

I can't remember who commented about more people noticing when you did shave/wax than before. I just bleach the hair on my arms. My dad and all of his family(thanks Dad ) have hairy arms but hardly any hair on their heads so I've always dealt with hairy arms even when I was little. I use the Sally Hansen bleach that works with your skin tone to turn the hair the right shade or whatever the box/directions say. You do have to test it to see how long you need to leave it on there though. Don't skip that step.
I want to get the lasering done not sure when I'll do it though.

I shave my arms. Never have I had anyone ask if I shave them, though. I use to have people comment on how hairy they were! I am very glad that I started shaving them!

My PCOS issues didn't start until my mid twenties, but I've been shaving my arms since high school - not because they were extra hairy, but because I'm Irish; which means that I'm ultra pale and my hair is pretty dark, so they would look a lot more hairy than they really were.

I've never had a negative reaction about it from people. Most people don't even notice it unless I point it out to them.
In fact, my best friend who, like me, is pale with dark hair, had been bleaching her arm hairs when I told her about shaving them instead. Now she does it too.

Doesn't take too long, just zip a razor up and down each arm in the shower each morning (or every other morning, depending on how fast your hair grows).

I have really hairy arms, but instead of waxing or shaving (because my hair grows so fast) i've taken to bleaching it like a couple other ladies here.
It's really simple, it remains natural looking (because we all should have SOME hair there), and it's not as embarassing. I used to wear hoodies and long sleeved shirts all the time because people would always comment on my arms. But now with bleaching it I never get stares and I can feel comfortable in short sleeve/sleeveless shirts.
