Default armour thyroid

Hiya. Is there anyone out there (especially from UK) that takes Armour? If so, how are you doing on it and where did you get hold of it? Thanks.

How can you be hypo "when it feels like it"? Have you ever had your antibodies checked...? It's likely you have hashimoto's thyroiditis and you get flare-ups that throw you hypo; under this circumstance you need to be on meds consistently to lower antibodies and stop the flare-ups, or you'll eventually get ill in other ways as well.

I take Armour, and I got it from my doctor and local pharmacy. I'm doing well on it, I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

A friend of mine's husband is on armour and she said the reason he insists on using it is because it is a more inclusive thyriod hormone. She sais that it targets all of the thyriod hormone levels. I plan on asking my doctor about it on my next check up. Mylevels are good on synthriod now, but I am still curious.

Thanks for your replys.
I am very interested in trying Armour, but it is very hard to get hold of in the UK. I am going to ask my endo about it next time i see him. I may be able to persuade him because he says i am an "unusual case"- typical of me! Everyone seems to do so much better on it.
Thanks again
Karen

Default definitely not for everyone.

I am one of the people who does very poorly on armour. (Taking it actually made my problems worse.) While a nice fast hit of T3 all at once might help you feel good in a short term way, it is not always good for helping the system self-regulate. As a result, according to my endo, many people who take armour because it is the trendy option actually end up with even greater imbalances to contend with long-term. According to my doctor she is starting to treat a huge rash of people for post-armour problems.

Hello,
I take Armour, well Natural Thyroid tablets to be exact, {Armour is a brand name}. I'm in the UK and had a total tyroidectomy 4 years ago. This was because of a Multi Nodular Goitre. I had symptoms of on off hyothyroidism for many years, so I do understand your problem. Eventually my thyroid failed, it was growing bigger and bigger to try to compensate and produce enough hormones.

I do not convert T4 {Thyroxine}, so I take Lio thyronnine sodium/Tertroxin T3 and 2 grains of NT each day.

My last bottle were bought from Mexico. I was originally prescribed it by the wonderful Dr Peatfield. {He retired after being hounded for his views on treating thyroid disorders}. He understood exactally how I felt. Without the NT tablets I have the most horrendous muscle creamps. I have an address somewhere of some group who are importing it to the UK, I'll look for it for you.

Sammy

Hi Sammy. Thanks for your reply. It sounds like we have a similar thyroid history. It would be really great if you could find that address for me. Every bit of help is greatly appreciated.
At the moment i am trying to get a prescription filled for synthetic T3. I eventually got my endo to prescribe it for me, but i`m having trouble getting it in the right dosage.I am still very interested in trying natural thyroid, but i suppose i`d better give this a go first.
Thanks again
Karen

Hello Karen
What dose of T3/Tertroxin are you taking? At the moment I take 1 x 20mcg tablet three times a day, {I sometimes take the odd extra one, depending on how I feel}. I had quite a battle for my GP to prescribe it {I spent almost 18 months paying for my script privately, about £30 per month}. I also take 2x 1 grain NT tablets each morning too.

I will look for the address over the weekend, when I'm off work and post it here.

Take care

Sammy

Hi Sammy. At the moment im not taking any T3 because i`m waiting for my prescription to be filled. But im hoping it will be sorted out soon so i can start taking it. There was a problem with it because my endo wants to to start off with 2.5 mcg twice a day. They have to be specially made up and he has to specify capsules on the script. The pharmacist managed to get it through this time and i`m waiting for them to be made. My endo seems to be being really cautious. How much did you start off on ? I considered going privately as well, because when i mentioned it to my endo he didnt want to know and said it does nothing to help, but a few months later he mentioned it to me. He must have been doing some research !
What are NT tablets?
Thanks
Karen

Hey Guys,
My partner has hypothyroidism, and takes Armour (we live in Lancashire) which she gets from Springfield pharmacy in Richmond. They seem to have supply issues(often just do half orders than full scripts), and her consultant is gonna send some other pharmacies in the U.K that do it. My partner doesnt have PCOS tho. If you want Springfields addy pm me or email me and I'll pass it on.

Cheers
Linda

Hi. Thanks for your reply Linda. Does your partner get Armour prescribed from the G.P or a private doc ?
Thanks for the offer of an address, but i already managed to get it off of someone on the about.com site. Has your partner tried that ? It`s a really good site.
Thanks
Karen
p.s Congrats on the pregnancy.

Hi Karen,

>Does your partner get Armour prescribed from the G.P or a private doc ?

A private Doc, apparently some g.p's will prescribe it and cover some of the costs. We haven't asked ours yet....

>about.com site. Has your partner tried that ? It`s a really good site.

Yeah, she reads mainly, but gets bogged down withall the American test results LOL

>Thanks
Karen

Thats ok

>p.s Congrats on the pregnancy.

Thankyou!!!!

Smile I Found It In The Uk!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello!

I just wanted to add a reply, because a while ago I came across this forum - I was looking for where I could get Armour thyroid in the Uk for my husband who's a hypo.

I was searching for doctors who could prescribe & didn't have any luck, then when I contacted the www.tpa-uk.org.uk , I got a response in asnwer to my questions, that you can actually buy it without a prescription legally and safely abroad!

Sheila gave me the link to the pharmacy & I've just purchased some Armour for my husband: www.internationalpharmacy.com .

It's quite cheap & the shipping to Uk is good at $7.00. I'm so pleased I discovered this, as it was so frustrating that my husband still had the same symptoms for years whilst on the synthetic hormone, & after hearing from friends about Armour working for them, we found we couldn't obtain it! I know it may not be the miracle cure, but we just wanted to try something else other than the synethetic.

I hope this is useful to anyone else that wanted to try Armour & is having trouble finding it!

All the best,

Sarah
