Default Armour Thyroid-how many times daily?

Is anyone taking Armour thyroid taking it 2x a day or just once? I just was reading an article from Dr. Mercola that says most doctors aren't aware that Armour should be taken 2x a day. I only take it once a day and was wondering what everyone else was doing. Dr. Mercola says it needs to be taken 2x to have consistency in blood levels. I would like to know how often others are taking before I go insist on 2 x a day to my doctor.

Here is the article...

Let me know what your doctor says, I just started taking Armour about 2 weeks ago and I am very interested in finding out what everyone else dosage and number of times per day is.

Yep that is what I told my Dr when I first started on Armour in Oct 2006 and I take 60mg first thing when I get up and then I take another 60mg at 5:15 p.m. daily, if I don't take it I don't sleep well or feel rested when I wake up.

I am on 60mg 1x daily before breakfast. I think I will be revisiting my doctor because before I started taking the meds I was sleeping fine....Now I wake up several times a night. If anyone has other other articles/information on this I would appreciate it.

I just started on it yesterday. I'll keep an eye on what the rest say.

i talked to my doctor this week about this. since i have insomnia, i shouldn't take it at night. but he said i could split up the dose in the morning and in the afternoon, like an hour before dinnner. so, i'm going to try it to see what happens. (my dose is now 120 mg, or 2 grains).

I was on 180 mg (have to supress my TSH to 0.1 or below- severely hypothyroid- as a lifetime cancer therapy), but my gyno lowered it to 150 mg after my ovarian drilling/endometriosis surgery to try to get my periods back again. The combination of surgical intervention and bringing my TSH to within normal ranges did indeed give me my first natural period in 8 years.

Okay, so enough of the long backstory. I've been on Armour since 2006 and have found that taking 2/3 of the dose first thing in the evening and the remaining 1/3 as soon as I get off work is by far the best method for my body. I, too, have insomnia, but the smaller dose in the evening is more of a small kick-start so I can cook dinner, do light housework, go for a walk, etc.

Don't be afraid to experiment. Doctors seems so regimented when it comes to thyroid medication, they forget that controlling metabolism is NOT a "one size fits all approach". And those aren't my words: a endocrinologist from the Mayo Clinic shared that with me a few years ago.

Thanks all for the information, I am going to make another appointment with my doctor to discuss it. I also have a question...when everyone was diagnosed with hypothyroidism did they do further tests to determine the cause? My doctor has not done any thing just put me on the meds and sent me home told me to come back in 3 months. I would think they would want to rule out cancer, and Cushings etc. but what do I know.

i was diagnosed at 10 days old, i was born without a thyroid. why that happened, nobody knows. but yes, i would think that your doctor should be able to tell you what's going on.
