Default arms and hands fall asleep easily??

Anyone else have their arms and hands fall asleep easily? Like ok when I go to sleep. I have to wake up several times a night to get the blood flowing again even if I am not really sleeping on any body parts. Just wondering if anyone else deals with this. It will be bad for months and then get alot better for a while with me. Then it will start happening again.

I get it when I lie on a body part and it seems to take an abnormally long time to recover. Are you on any medication that could be causing it?

Thanks so much for replying. No I am not on any medication at all. Well I have been prescribed imitrex for migraines but I have not needed it yet. However, along with things going numb when I sleep I drop stuff alot. It's just like my brain forgets for a split second that my hand is holding onto something. I once had a huge spoon full of gravy in my hand at the buffet and instead of getting it on my plate I poured it all over the front of myself. Haha my hubby thought that was kind of funny. I was a little mortified but I couldn't help but laugh as well. I also get alot of muscle spasms but they aren't painful. My memory has also become horrid. I was just wondering if anyone else experiences these kinds of things. Is it sugar related or hormonal or something else. I am sure I will see my doctor again here soon when all the rest of my tests results are available.

After both of my pregnancies I developed carpral tunnel - my symptoms were just like you describe. Arms and hands falling asleep easily, esp. if driving or pushing a stroller. Waking up at night in pain from it. In my case it is a post-partum thing and goes away on its own eventually but in other cases you may need cortisone treatments.

Yes, I have had this. I find that Yoga has the most benefit. If I am doing Yoga these symptoms go away, if I am not they can get pretty severe.

Thanks everyone! Haha I noticed for some reason it posted my response twice. Oh well. I am a nut ball so forgive my posting errors lol. I guess I am worried about the numbness because I also get a lot of muscle twitches. All day today my cheek has been twitching and driving me nuts. I keep pushing on it hoping it will stop lol. I must look silly. At any rate something is always twitching on me. haha. Ok I am so rambling. Thanks and I will ask my doc about it. I know during my last pregnancy that my pinkie on one hand was ALWAYS tingling and going numb. The doc said it would go away after I had my baby. It did go away but took a really long time. So thanks! For the ideas.

How long ago did you have your last baby? CT can flare up post-partum for some weird reason - and it can be a while post partum!!! With my son he must have been about a year... maybe more? With the girls they were 4 months or so...I'd almost say with my son it wasn't pregnancy related except that I never had it before in my life and now this is two pregnancies it's happened with. Maybe it will be worse each time, who knows.

When it first started happening with my son, actually my first thought was multiple sclerosis! I PMed a cyster who has MS and asked her if that was how it started for her and she said it sounded like CT. I looked into CT and that seemed like what it was.

I never went for help for it because the thought of a cortisone shot freaked me out - but supposedly they can give oral meds, too.

At any rate both times it cleared up on it's own... I'd say it lingered 2-3 months each time.

My last pregnancy was over 4yrs ago. Like I said earlier. It flares up from time to time. Sometimes for months on end I do great and then one day I am just at square one again. lol.

Your symptoms sound like things I'd read about calcium deficiency. Both pins and needles and the muscle twitching fall under the list of problems. You should see your dr. to ease your mind and get some relief, no matter what the cause is.

I had problems with arms and hands falling asleep before starting Met, and even while on it if I eat too much refined sugar after dinnertime. I've had problems with what I think was tendonitis (due to work and lifestyle...) and that may have played a role too. I have a friend who also had this problem (and the tendonitis), so we did some research and found that tingling/numbness can be caused be artificial sweeteners as well. She loved diet pepsi, and her numbness went away when she stopped drinking it. I try to avoid artificial sweeteners, and have also noticed fewer problems.

I have the same problem with numbness...I wake up with hands numbed. Don't know how much this helps, but I've been told that it has to do with being overweight...but then again I've been told a lot of things in the years before I was diagnosed. Once I was diagnosed, almost everything *wrong* with me turned out to be associated with PCOS.

I am starting to think it is a sugar issue and weight issue and PCOS issue. I am going to talk to my Dr. about it but I am still waiting for some test results to come back. I still don't know if I am insulin resistant. As soon as my test results are all in then I can make my follow up Dr. appointment. Thanks everyone for your replies. It means alot to me! I will let you all know how it goes.
