I got an Email from a freelance writer who has been given the job of writing a piece for a UK women's magazine health section all about PCOS and the horrible symptoms we suffer - but really focusing on the excess hair. It seems to have been inspired by a recent BBC documentary on a lady who had to shave her face 3 times a day because of her excess hair caused by PCOS.
The writer's name is Michelle Maynard. I have Googled her and it appears she has been a reporter for some TV companies as well - Including Granada ITV1 West and HTV West, so she seems on the level here.
She is looking for people to go through a telephone interview at first, but if you are chosen for the article (and there will probably be more than one person chosen) then you will have your photo taken as well - including close ups of the excess facial hair etc. It is to highlight the problems that a lady with PCOS has to go through to cope with this on a daily basis. On the plus side, if you are chosen to be in the article then they will pay £100!
By the way - I'm not getting anything for posting this - I'm just trying to help because personally I don't think that PCOS has enough press over here. My symptoms don't fit what they are looking for - although they will touch on all the other symptoms as well.
Anyway, hope you ladies don't mind me posting this. If you would be interested in helping then please email Michelle at:
i'd love to help, but i only get the one, under my chin.
my problem is hair LOSS. when's someone going to care about that?

Metformin destroyed my digestive system
Now on Avandamet, which is a wonder drug. Can't recommend it highly enough. Ask your doctor for it if you're worried about Metformin side effects.
I also have ME, hence the "tired" user name.
Contemplating hysterectomy but have to lose weight first.
I've told Michelle about the reluctance to having your photos taken, etc. and she came back with this:
Hi Jane,
The only thing I can think of is that we use a pic of the subject as
she's happy to be seen (ie. hair free) But she would have to talk
about how bad the problem is, and the lengths she goes to deal with
it. If the ed then insists on a 'hairy' pic, I'll suggest that she
uses one from a medical library (ie. one that is posed by a model)
Do you think anyone would go for it if we did it that way?
Michelle
Would anyone be willing to go for it with this as the scenario?
If so, please contact Michelle ASAP as she needs to get the story together quite quickly.
Thanks again!!
