I am not sure, but I would think if you avoid the white sticky rice (very high carb!!) and avoid sugary sauces then you should be fine. Most sauces have one tsp of sugar in the recipe mixed with soy, sesame oil and potatoe starch (at least in my chinese recipes, not sure about Japanese recipes) which is not too bad. The vegetables are usually good low carb choices and when you add the meat or tofu you are getting your carb/protein mix, so I would think if you avoid the rice, sweet sauces (like sweet& sour or orange), and the heavy noodles that the meals would be just fine.
Also, a couple of pieces of sushi should be ok even though they have the rice as long as you do not have more than 1/4 cup of the rice altogether. It is too bad I cannot get the sushi with just the raw seafood and the seaweed and veggies, but the rice seems to hold it all together!
Of course, I actually have no basis for any of this because I haven't read the whole IR book yet, I only bought it yesterday. I am going by my diabetic diet in which I can have the white rice in very small quantities without my blood sugar spikeing too high.
Maybe someone more knowledgable can help us out here. I would love to hear whether or not it is ok to eat from someone with more experience because I love asian food, it is my favorite type of food to cook at home. Quick, easy, delicious and usually only one to two pan clean up!
