ummmm I have insurance, but on my bills it says......lets see here! For 270 pills which is 3x's 500mgs, 3 months worth.

in saskatchewan it would have been25.80

but here in the northwest territorries it costs 50.95 for 3 months.

And that is for generic metformin HCL 500mg pills.

I guess it depends on what province you live in! I never realized there was a difference until I just went and looked and my little medical stubs for you! hmmmmmm wonder why that is???

My last prescription for 270 tablets was $49.25 at Shoppers Drugmart in Toronto.
I also found a receipt from Pharma Plus for 180 pills for $36.71.

My advice to you is if you are on a budget is to call around and see what pharmacy in your area has the lowest dispensing fees.

see I have no idea how many pills he is going to give me, I just know he wants me to start it.... I have an infection that has to clear up before I get going on any of the pills again.. and I have never taken the Met before. Im not too worried about the cost, I have money "set aside" it was more for future budgeting that I was thinking about, I dont have a drug plan anymore, and that kinda makes it hard, but I deal and get through that part of it anyhow..

thanks for your replys, I at least have a general idea anyway

My pharmacist gives me 3 months at a time, because she said it saves on the dispensing fee, so that maybe something to think about.

My guess is that you'll be on 1500mgs daily as that seems to be the norm!

Sorry I can't remember the cost b/c mine is covered by benefits, but I do remember seeing the price on the bag my Rx came in & thinking it was pretty cheap as far as prescriptions go... anyways I wanted you to know that if you can go to Loblaws their dispensing fee is the cheapest I've seen

In the USA, 270 pills would cost $220 Canadian. That's for the Generic. It's no wonder Americans want to import Canadian drugs.

I actually get 360 pills for 3 months (which would be about $293 Canadian), but I have insurance and only pay ~$24 for 3 months. Thank goodness for insurance.

The last time I picked up 100 pills it cost me about $20.00. My jaw dropped when I saw the cost of met in the US. How can they get away with that?

I don't know how they can get away with it, except that there is no government regulation on drug costs. Why there isn't is beyond me. There should be laws. If I had to pay full price for all of my meds for three months the total cost would bankrupt me: $1246.94 (US)! That's for 5 meds, listed below, for three months. Luckily, with insurance, I pay $184 US.
