Default Atypical?

I went to my PCP today to get my back adjusted and I told him about my ultrasound showing multiple cysts and my gyn mentioning possible PCOS. He told me that he could've told me that I had it and the reason why he never mentioned it to me is because theres no treatment for it.

He says my irregular, heavy periods, acne, hair in places where i shouldnt have hair, cant gain weight, thin as a rail, and type A personality all fit the atypical signs of PCOS. Even WITH normal hormones from my endocrinologist.

So I have a script for bloodwork from my gyn:

12 hr fasting
cholesterol
TSH
insulin
FBS
DHEA-S
testosterone, total & free

dx: polycystic ovaies & irregular menstrual cycles.

On another note, he also gave me Chantix to help me quit smoking!! YAAY!!!

Glad you are getting tested! Most women don't know there are 5 kinds of PCOS and you don't have to have any postive blood work to prove you have it. Here are some good links: The Newbie Road Map

I did read about the 5 types before but I cant figure out which one I would be considered. i'm assuming one of the ovulatory ones but I never heard of being insulin resistant.

I guess thats the one test shes sending me for. The weird thing about this, is I started with my symptoms after the birth of my son in 8/2005. I never had acne like this. It just doesnt go away!!

It seems for some women it takes a physical change (pregnancy, puberty, tubal ligation, etc.) for their symptoms to start. I've had symptoms since about age 8 or 9, but had cycles of good PCOS and bad PCOS.
