Default Autoimmune Prgesterone Dermatitis (AIPD)?

Hi -

I have been trying to conceive for a few years now. I started working with a fertility group about a year ago. At that same time, I started getting terrible hives. The chronic hives (urticaria) have now lasted for a year, getting worse at certain times.

My allergist was always convinced that it had something to do with the fluctuation in hormones with all of the meds (Provera, Clomid, Metformin...). He kept telling me that we should just give this up and look into adoption. While this is definitely an option, we wanted to at least try every option to see if we could conceive.

After doing a ton of my own research (thank goodness for the web), I found out about AIPD and everything clicked. The hives had started with my first round of Provera and although they continued after it, they always got worse when I took Provera.

We were just about to try our first cycle of IVF but now it is possible that I won't be able to do it because of the 30 days of progesterone that I would be required to take.

Has anyone else experienced this?

As crazy as it sounds, I have come to think that we were just not meant to have children.
