Availability of Asian children for domestic adoption
We've been exploring adoption for some time now. DH is almost dead-set on adopting a Filipino child or Filipino/mixed child (he's Filipino) and I think that's a great idea, but to do international adoption from the Philippines you have to be 27 and married for 5 years (when there's been a divorce) which is several years away for us because of my age. So I thought perhaps we could do domestic adoption. I've been looking on websites and photolistings for mainly special needs kids, but all I'm seeing is mostly African-American, and a good amount of Caucasian, but hardly any Asian or other race. Does anyone happen to know the availability of Asian children in the foster care system? I've also looked at the website for Lifetime Adoption - they mainly do adoptions where the birthmother picks you and you take the baby from the hospital after it's born, and there are very occassionally Filipino babies, but it's a lot more expensive than adopting from the foster care system. Any suggestions?

Yes, there are Asian children available in the US, I am not sure about Filipino specifically. I saw a site specifically for Asian kids in the US awaiting adoption, I will go see if I can find it again for you. Also, keep in mind that not all the kids are on the photolistings, you may want to get your homestudy done if you didn't already and then "network" to let social workers at various agencies know that you are seeking a Filipino child if possible. (I had a high school friend who was adopted from the Phillippines, btw.)
Both/either LOL. It's right there between the 2 "regions." A lot of Hawaiians have Filipino ancestry, as well - and I think they are considered Pacific Islanders. Thanks very much for the websites - I'll have to check them out.
Another question - is it possible to live in one state and adopt a child in foster care from another state?

Yes it is, usually. Just make sure all the agencies involved talk to each other. I think they'd call the agency that did your home study where you are your homestudy agency and the agency the child is originating from the placement agency? Some kind of terminology like that...
Sarabelle, it's been a while since we talked- are you still seeking to adopt from the Phillipines? I have info on a little girl from the Phillippines who is blind that I thought you might be interested in so I looked up this old post of yours we were talking about months ago. Email me back at rachelmichellek@yahoo.com if you want to hear more, or if not this particular girl, then maybe her agency might have other info for you on other kids... ? [EDIT: oh, darn... I didn't re-read closely enough, now am seeing about the age restriction thing you mentioned. So this may not be a helpful reply to you after all. Darn. Well, email me anyhow if you like.]
