Default Avandamet

Has anyone taken this for very long? I have been "suppose" to have been on it for a little over a year. Sometimes it bothers my stomach A LOT, but I try to bear it. I only take it at night now (b/c I sleep through the stomach pains..or so it seems). Do you think this will really be bad? My doctor has me on 1000mg twice a day, but I can't handle it that much and so I only take 100mg once a day.

Has anyone had much success on it either? Would anyone suggest anything else? I tried met too, but that was brief and after a few months with my doctor Avandamet came out and I've been on that since. I'm HORRIBLE about taking pills so it has helped somewhat. I am not TTC, but just want to get things straightened out. I have no one in my life to help me TTC and it doesn't look like it is going to happen anytime soon and I do not want to wait until I get married. It could be 10 years from now and I could be infertile..you know?

I will take any advice anyone has. I am also on Provera every 3 months to make me have a period and Zolcor for my cholesterol. I've considered going on BCP just to regulate the period and maybe lessen infertility (that's my theory not my doctor's so if it's way off it's me so no malpractice :-P)

Any help would be great!!
Let me know!!
Thanks!!

Susan

I was on Metformin for about 8 months. I was not consistant with the drug b/c it made my stomach bubble and I had constant diarrhea although the doctor suggested that I take somehthing like priolec otc or something competable. I was put on Avandamet last month. I like it a little better. The first few days were not so great. But, after that it is not bad. This is what I do. take my prilosec about 1/2 hour before I eat my breakfast. I take my avandamet about 1 hour later. I feel great. No stomach pain or bubbling. I also drink a lot of water throughout the day. So good luck. By the way, I am from Columbus. I moved to ATL about 7 yrs ago. Go buckeyes.

Yeah, I actually took it with some Pepto the other day and that seemed to help. Thanks for the advice? Have you been on it long enough to see any changes? My body is stubborn and I am forgetful so it's pretty dificult

That's cool that you are from here. I grew up around here, but not IN Columbus. Only been in the area since 2002, but grew up near Urbana.

Well thanks Have a good day

That is cool that you tried the meds with a new twist. I must try that. I was diagnoised with pcos last April and I was in denial. I took met on and off for a few months and in December I decided to take it seriously so that I could lose some weight. This is the kicker. My husband and I were doing taebo and the treadmil every day for a month. I was doing the low carb diet. Get this.... I did not lose one pound. I did not have any additional fasial hair until I started to use met. It always made my stomach ache and I was getting very sick by losing my lunch after just eating. Avandamet is ok so far. I went to my doc sometime in early last month and I told the nurse practioner that I wasn't doing well with met and told her the horible stories. So she said try this out and if it doesnt' work you can refill your met prescrips. So far, I am doing ok with avandamet. I lost 1lb within 3 weeks of my first visit last month until I had a follow up visit for my surgery. Now it has been 2 weeks since my surgery and I have lost a total of 12lbs.

I was born and raised in Columbus. I lived 71N off of Webber Rd. I love it here in the south. I do not have to worry about snow much.

Yeah I've been on Avandamet for a while. I was doing really well with losing weight (even through the holidays) and had probably lost 5-10 lbs and then I got a new job where I travel A LOT. It's not easy to eat a salad while driving My doctor is very understanding, but I also promised I would walk more once it got warmer. I'm really going to try, but it's just not fun!! I need to find a softball team or a volleyball team or something!! Next step is to the join the Y just to get on some teams.

Well keep me posted how things are going with your Avandamet.
