I took Avandia for 5 or 6 months at 8mg. I took it in combination with Glucophage. I did good on the Avandia; it was when I went up to 1500mg of glucophage that I became quesy. Just make sure your Dr. does liver function test ever so many months as it affects your liver. My test always came out fine, so you shouldn't have to worry much.

Hope this helps.

I took avandia for 13 months--8 mg once a day. I had no bad side effects. It regulated my cycles in the first month to 35 days and after a few months every 31 days (I used to get a period once or twice a year). I also was way less moody and my insomnia went away. I also know for a fact that it restored ovulation at least once in a while because I now have an 8 month old son who was conceived without any fertility drugs (didn't even ovulate with clomid before). I plan on going back on it after I get used to my new birth control pills.

I am currently taking 8mg of avandia daily. It has made a definite improvement in me. I am more regular taking that with loestrin (bc). I havent had any bad side effects. So it pretty much has my approval.

Default Possible RX for Avandia

At my last Dr's appointment, my Dr. stated that some people just don't respond to Glucophage or become resistent. He stated that he adds Avandia to the mix with very good success rates - and also stated that if he is treating women with IR he asks if they are trying to conceive. If not he puts them on BCP's, if so - he stated that the TX seems to "increase" fertility.

I feel that Glucophage XR's effect on me is dwindling. I have lost 50 pounds on it, but still am not having regular periods. I have read about Avandia and found one of the side effects is weight gain - have any of you experienced that? I am hopeful that Avandia will help with TTC'ing, but don't really want to gain back the weight I have lost.

What are your experiences with it? All opinions, please.

Thanks,
Christi

I didn't gain any weight while taking avandia. The scale actually stopped going up for once, but it did not go down at all even though I was walking almost 2 miles everyday.

Thanks I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the meds or just my mood but I have had so much more energy the last couple of days!! Either way its a good thing. My dr. started me on 2mg that doesn't seem like it would do anything.

I havent gained any weight either while taking avandia. I think it together with my BC has actually made me lose a few pounds. I guess it was all fluid but it still helped some. I also feel a little more energetic except when AF is around!!
