Smile no side effects for me

I'm on Avandia and I haven't had any side effects at all.
It's been wonderful since I had an awful 3 months when I was trying to adjust to Metformin. I'm also on Metformin XR and it has had no side effects ~ if you don't see anything with Avandia you can ask about it. On other postings the cysters that use Avandia they found it worked for them. I just had it long enough at 8mg before I started Insulin to know if it had made a difference on it's own.

Your oby/gyn should put you on Metformin first. It can regulate your blood sugars/insulin levels better and can help you loose weight.

HI Demrie,

I had really bad bloodwork results and I was extremely IR. Past 1.5 mths I changed my diet, got more aware of what i put in my mouth, ate low carbs, hardly any rice/potatoes/bread/pasta and went to whole wheat.

My RE asked me to repeat my bloodwork before the next appointment to make sure meds are working. Im insulin resistant. Im so happy that my levels are restored to normal.

Before levels-

Fasting Insulin- 16.17 (normal below 10)
Insulin after 1 hr glucose load- 189.22 (should be 40-75)

After levels-

Fasting insulin- 6.76
After glucose load (1 hr)- 63.14

Met works and so does Avandia. I got horrilble side effects on Met and my life was miserable but I just dont get them anymore. I take one pill at night and one in the morning and dont get sideeffects any more. Avandia doesnt have any side effects. You can ask doc to put u on Avandia. Its great but u cant take it if u r pregnnat and u can take met during pregnancy. So I think u should change ure diet and not eat any high carb foods as they worsen the side effects. Also its helped me to eat smaller meals so that my glucose level doesnt drop too much.

I just started taking Avandia five days ago. I've noticed some lightheadedness, but nothing serious. However, I also started taking Lexepro (for depression) at the same time which might be the culprit. I'm starting slowly so as to avoid side effects. My doctor did warn me that Avandia could cause liver damage so if you are taking it, you need to have your liver function levels tested periodically to make sure everything is okay. Also, my doctor mentioned that Avandia can cause you to put on "water weight" which will vary depending on how much you weigh right now. Apparently the weight will come off if you stop taking the medication. Otherwise, so far, so good. I tried Metformin a couple of years ago, but had bad gastrointestinal side effects (esp. diarrhea). I tolerated it for only three months before I gave up. My current doctor suggested I try Fortamet (extended release Metformin) to see if I could tolerate that better. I'll have to wait for a few days off work before I try that out.

Exclamation Oh, Avandia!

Hi,

I was taking Metformin XR and I just couldn't adjust, the side affects were horrible ! So, about two months ago, I talked to my doctor about switching me to Avandia. I took it for a little over two months, and I didn't have stomach problems, but I thought I was getting bloated so my Dr. gave me Spironolactone to help with the swelling, and I was allergic to that. But anyways come to find out, I wasn't bloated, I gained 27 pounds!! Gaining weight is something us PCOS gals don't need!! So my dr. switched me again to just the plain metformin 500mg three times a day.... Guess we'll see how it works!!! But I did not know that weight gain was possible, so be careful with the Avandia, it can really put on the pounds. Good Luck with whatever you do and remember eventually we will have our turn at motherhood!!

Smile Interesting personal info about Met XR

Hi again,
I had those side effects with the regular metformin but am able to tolerate the metformin xr with no side effects. BUT I have a very strange system...
I had to cut out complex carbs totally out of my diet. I started the Met XR after that. I started on Insulin but still take the XR with my dinner. Since it's been 3 months w/o complex carbs, they are my 'treat' when I need to have one. If I have the complex carb in my dinner ~ when I take the XR ~ I do get the diarrhea , but only with those circumstances.
I used to eat carbs "normally" when I was on the regular metformin and had terrible diarrhea and I was taking that with dinner too. I've just connected it to the Met XR because I don't usually have the complex carbs at dinner when I do have them. Maybe if you can take the metformin when you are not having any complex carbs it won't affect you like that, I don't know, but I thought I should mention it since we are both I.R. too.
I do have a very weird system though, as Metformin makes my period disappear rather than come, and eating fibre makes me constipated. I don't know if that is a trait for IR people or not lol.
Oh, I'm also on the Avandia, have never had side effects but I've been put on Insulin and have to change things slowly so I don't know if I will be staying on it or not. I do know I'll be taken off the Met XR because it's not covered by my drug plan and she doesn't want to have to give me samples each time. That may mean I stay on the Avandia ~ I'm really not sure how it would work in combination with Insulin. I'm still learning about that kind of stuff.
I hope you work out your pills and have success before the end of the year!
