Default Avandia questions

Another thread got me thinking about this. I took Avandia years ago and it seemed to be a miracle drug for me in that the very first month I O'd and had a 28 day cycle. Same with month #2. This, from someone who NEVER has a period w/o meds and never O's.

The problem was that I had edema from it as well. It scared me and I stopped taking it. Now that I'm many years older and know that glucophage does nothing for me and am at the end of my ttc rope, I am wondering about Avandia again. Is there anything that can be done for the edema caused by avandia or would a dr immediately have you stop taking it due to it?

I'm wondering if it's worth going back to the dr. and asking for an rx or not. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Also, anybody have a clue why a low dose of avandia (4mg) would help and glucophage (2000mg) would do nothing? Weird huh? Oh, I'm not diabetic and did not test IR the last time they checked in Jan.

Karen,

I took Avandia too and loved it. It is the only thing that seemed to work for me...it also gave me cycles for the only time in my life and I now have two lovely babies because of this. I didn't have a problem with edema while I was on it but I'm now wondering if it is still used for PCOS since it has gotten such bad press. I'm in a quandry about what to do now that I'm done having children and will need something to stimulate cycles until menopause...which is still a few years away. Metformin did NOT work for me so there is no going back to that.

I'm sorry that I didn't answer your question but I feel like I'm in a similar boat.
