Just wondering... if it comes down to dipping into my stash and self-medicating. My old doctor just told me to take it 4mg once a day, but I read somewhere that it's supposed to be taken in divided doses over the course of a day... ???

It's a once a day med, regardless of if it's a 4 or 8 mg pill.
I wouldn't be too concerned about self medicating (while you're searching for a doc that WILL prescribe it) with Avandia. It's pretty mild compared to something like Met - just watch out for swelling.
