Default Avandia V. Metformin

I am currently taking 1500mg of Met and I am having terrible side effects. Tons of stomach and bowel problems. So.....I just spoke with the nurse at the RE office and questioned her about starting the XR, she started talking about Avandia, I was talking about Gluc XR. When I brought it to her attention she said that Avandia would be good to try. My question is......what kind of side effects has anyone had with Avandia, Is it working for you, what is your dose, were you on Met before and how does it compare to Avandia?? Sorry so many questions, but you all have better answers than the RE office. Thanks in advance..............Janet

The biggest one is weight gain.

You have to excerise on this med.

But then you may get lucky and not have any side effects!

That has been the main one I can remember.

Always check any new meds out BEFORE taking them so you know what side effects you could have.

HI JW....

I am have been on Avandia for 2 1/2 months and the only side-effect I had when I first started taking it was a mild headache that lasted for a couple of days until my body got used to it. The headache wasn't constant. It kicked in about an hour after I took the Avandia and was usually gone by the evening. I also have lost about 5 pounds since I have been on it..and that was in the first couple of weeks. I haven't lost anymore...but I haven't been really low-carb eating & not exercising alot lately. Unfortunatly, my doc took me off of avandia yesterday because my knees, ankles, wrist, and fingers have been swollen for 12 days and she thinks it is the Avandia causing it. That is one of the side-effects. So if you have problems with swelling, I wouldn't suggest taking it. If not, it's a very low side-effect med. I like it...just can't deal with the swelling. I will go on glucophage in a week...I am not looking forward to it. So many people have terrible problems with it. The XR is lighter on the side-effects, insn't it? If so, I will ask for that.

HTH

Thumbs up

I have been on Avanida since July, and I love it. I have had no problems at all and I have lost 12 lbs. I take 4mg a day. Try it you have no tummy problems with it. Holly

I have been taking Avandia for about a week now. I, too, was scared to try the drug because I tend to be the queen of experiencing nasty side effects of drugs (some the doctors never heard of)! I was afraid of trying and having to go to work. So, I tried the drug all this week while I was home on vacation to see how I reacted. So far, so good ... no notable side effects!!!

We are all different when it comes to take meds. However, I would suggest trying when you know you can be at home just in case you have side effects. Then, if you do, let the doctor know right away.

I took both at the same time! I was 1500mg of XR and 8mg of Avandia. There is usually less side effects with XR because you take all the day's pills at once. The medicine is then evenly released thourghout your system during the day.
I had no side effects from the Avandia.

Well, I thought I'd add my 2 cents!

Been on it for 8 days...NOT ONE SIDE AFFECT!!!

I have more energy, less grumpiness, lost 4 lbs, major decrease in carb cravings, and the list goes on!

I absolutely love it and wish I would've ditched met years ago!

Good luck!

Default avandamet

There's a new drug out now called Avandamet..it's half avandia and half met...

You might want to talk to your doctor about it...
