Question Avandia & Weight Gain?

Help,

Lately I have had to go to different doctors for different things going wrong in this worn down body. After giving my lengthy list of all my medications they all are in agreement that I should not be on Avandia. They all say this drug is a major factor of weight gain? Has anyone had this problem? I am alreay on Met the max 2550/day. My OBGYN only added the Avandia to see if that would kick start my period because I don't have any period. I refuse to take provera anymore it causes severe hairloss for me. I am talking loads & loads coming out.

I still have no peroid since adding avandia over 8 months ago & I am at an all time high weight.. Yes, I have IR. I don't see what good Avandia is doing, I want to just stop it!

HELP

(((hugs))) I hope you feel better. Have you tried Prometrium before? The last time my Af didn't come my OB gave me Prometrium and it gave me alot of cramping but then AF showed up. I do know about the weight gain with different types of meds cause I am currently taking Lexapro for my anxiety and I am convinced that it is part of the cause of my weight gain even though my doctor disagrees. Please feel better soon.

Metformin doesn't do much for me (with the exception of the wondrous side effects), and so I talked to 2 of my doctors about Avandia. Neither thought it would be helpful, as it is known for weight gain (which I need NO help with), and since I tend to be hypoglycemic, Avandia's sugar-lowering effects would do more harm than any good.

So, my point , yes, I have heard of weight gain with Avandia.

Good luck, I hope you and your doctors are able to find that elusive combo that works for you!

I'm on Avandia and I really haven't had any side effects to speak of...I haven't gained any weight, however, I am a "thin cyster" so that might make a difference. It does work for me and I have had regular 31 day cycles the entire time I've been on it which was my goal. (I never had cycles before - totally annovulatory). Good luck with whatever you decide.

Question Three weeks on Avandia...

I am too on Avandia and just got put on it about three weeks ago. My gyno told me that she found that her patients have found success with it and it's "easier on the stomach" than metformin. I had been doing my research before the follow-up and assumed that she'd put me on the metformin, but then I came home with the script for Avandia. I haven't noticed weight gain; I was praying for weight loss. I know that it wouldn't be a miracle drug and losing weight is all about diet and exercise, but for IR cysters this drug would aid in weight loss. Now I'm reading all about weight gain and I'm scared! I already have enough around the middle and it was a rapid gain in the past 2 years, so I can't afford any more! Anyone have any words of wisdom? I'm moving soon so I'll have to change gynos, so should I be talking to my new doctor about going on metformin instead or a combo such as many of you in this post have said? I haven't noticed a difference really, I only take the Avandia with evening meal as prescribed but I do notice I feel "satisfied" after eating a normal portion whereas before I never hit that wall. I just want to lose weight! Can anyone help?
