Default Avlimil and soy isoflavones

I did a search on avlimil and couldn't find anything. I am REALLY interested in starting soy isoflavones so I can o and hopefully shorten my 40 day cycle. However I have zero sex drive (no, it's not stress related, depression, a traumatic experience as a child, lack of attraction to dh, or a matter of just "spicing things up"). So since anyone I talk to about it (drs and other people) blame it on one of the above I have had to take it upon myself to fix it. I am now taking Avlimil. I've only been on it about a week so far so I haven't noticed a difference yet but it does say that it takes a few months to notice a significant difference.

ANYWAY...
My question is can anyone thing of any reason that I shouldn't take avlimil and the soy together?

The Avlimil contains:
Salvia officinalis, rubus ideaus, isoflavones (from pueraria montana and trifolium pratense), Capsicum annuum, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Morella cerifera, Turnera diffusa, Valeriana officinalis, Zingiber officinale, Actaea racemosa.

That's all greek to me so I really hope someone can help. I'm on cd 4 now and would like to start the soy tomorrow.

Thanks in advance
Kerry

Hi Kerry,

I just had a look at the Avlimil web-site:

http://www.avlimil.com/index.html

It sounds like you'd be doubling up on isoflavones if you take the soy as well - you may not need it. Personally, I'm very much against the use of soy. I can give you several links to some pretty scary info if you like. If you do decide to try the soy, please have regular tests for thyroid function - like every month. Here is a small extract of a piece written by a nutritionist:

"Taking 40mg of isoflavones ... I tried the experiment on myself and developed full blown hypothyroidism in 10 days."

Hi Tas,
I read the entire post about taking soy and saw all the warnings. I am a thin cyster and have no thyroid problems. Since I would only be taking the soy for 5 days do you think the warnings are still serious or is it only dangerous if you take it everyday and have thyroid problems?
HOw can I tell how much isoflavones are in the avlimil? It is the third ingredient but i'd like to know specifically how many mgs. You know what I mean?
THanks for your reply!!

The woman I mentioned above "developed full blown hypothyroidism in 10 days", so it seems it can take only a few days. How about just trying the Avlimil for a while on it's own to see if it will help. What other pcos symptoms do you have?

If you can't find the info on the site, try emailing them.
