In 2003 I started having gall bladder attacks. My doctor was an idiot and told me I had arthritis in my ribcage. I thought it was strange because I was getting them during PMS each month, and they seemed to go away with a combination of advil and a scaldingly hot shower. When I asked by Gyn at the time all I got was "so what do you want me to do about it?" This continued on for about 6 months, during which I did some internet research and came up with my own theory. One night in May 2004 I got a painful attack that wouldn't go away no matter what I did, so I went to the hospital. I told them my theory so they did an ultrasound and verified that my gall bladder was full of stones, and I have one stuck in my cystic duct. I had it removed the next day. I pointedly asked my surgeon if I was going to need to change my diet and he said no. Of course he neglected to tell me that 1 out of 4 people who have their gall bladder out get nauseous when they eat too much grease. It wasn't too bad but it definitely was there. Since then my system has gotten increasingly worse. My cycles were getting longer. In November 2004 my cycle was up to 6 weeks with bleeding for 2 weeks. In January 2005 my cycle was 6 weeks with a month of bleeding. So I checked out a new Doctor. She said she took one look at me and thought I had PCOS. She of course took blood and tested relevant levels. She gave me some Yasmin to stop the bleeding, but it really kicked my butt. Made me very tired and caused some migraines. I had my ultrasound yesterday which confirmed that I have one regular cyst on one of my ovaries, and 2 liquid cysts in my ovaries. My doctor told me she would have me on it for 3 months, if no luck in getting preggers in that time, she have my husband tested, if he's OK then I'll go on ovulation hormones(not clomid she mentioned something she said worked better that I can't remember), we'll do that for 3 months then if nothing has happened she'll have me go to the specialist(RE). Seems like a reasonable plan to me. She gave me scrip for Metformin. She told me about the side effects. I took the pill last night at dinner9-10pm(I work late hours), and the sideeffects are just starting to kick in now at about 2PM. Nausea is tolerable, but diarrhea is considerable and no one told me about the dizziness(maybe it's cause I'm already prone to migraines).
Did half dose for the first week. After the first couple of days got better. Still had diarrhea, but tolerable. I got my period 2 days in. Had it for 7 days heavy, then 2 days light. I'm on full dose now. Getting some of the symptoms from the first couple of days, slight nausea, mean headache with dizziness, and major diarrhea. Has anyone been more emotional on the Metformin?
