How in the world do I tell what my constant vaginal "infection" is ? My gyno tried and tried and couldn't help my (tmi) itchiness and yeast looking 'buildup' so he recommended I try a naturopath who had me do a parasite cleanse program. I have 10 days left but I'm not really feeling relief. I'm worried about bacterial vaginosis...do you ladies suggest I try another gyno or go somewhere else...my guess is if it's vaginosis go to the gyno but if it's candida try another doctor??? What kind of doctor would treat system wide craziness??
Your regular doctor should be able to tell if it is yeast or bacteria by looking at it on a slide..under the microscope. I have had several of both and my doc has always been right and been able to help me.d
Now, b'f my current doc I had a yeast infection for like a year that I could not get rid of and that doc had me taking diflucan everyday. Well, after so long and it always coming back or never have been gone to begin with I switched docs. I had a pharmacy make up boric acid suppositories which did help and I took oral liquid nystatin which really helped. I believe..though I haven't found any concrete evidence, that yeast is a problem for many PCOS women. I think it is systematic even if you don't notice an infection "down there."Try reading The Yeast Connection and the Woman by a man named Crook. It even talks about women who have previously not been able to get pregnant and have just by taking the nystatin. Also about depression issues related to yeast and anything you could imagine. It is worth the read. If I can help let me know.
alot of bv problems are caused by hormones.. my doc said it was low estradiol levels

Ladies......also remember, if you are sexually active, often your partner needs to be treated, in the case of some vaginal infections. Take this into account....
And Tammi, if a gyno can't look at a sample under a microscope and tell you if it's yeast or bacteria, run in the opposite direction as fast as possible.
One reason PCOSers are subject to yeast infections a lot is because yeast thrives in the presence of higher than normal blood sugar. For those of us who are insulin resistant and have higher sugar levels than normal, this becomes an issue. Frequent yeast infections is always a good reason to have your blood sugar checked as well.

And don't forget to take a good quality (i.e. $$$) Acidopholus supplement.
When my yeast gets really bad - after O (I've read that there is a Progesterone connection), I even use the pills as vaginal suppositories.

Got symptoms under control with no meds.
I had this exact problem for like a year, which i found really weird because before that i had NEVER had a yeast infection. It took a chance appointment with a brand new doctor who was here doing his practicum (a student doctor) to finally tell me how to make it go away...all the other drs had put me on oral diflucan, or seriously strong antibiotics (some thought it was BV, others thought yeast..no tests were ever done), like the stuff they give AIDS patients! He said "You need to have your blood sugar checked, then come see me at the end of the week" So i did and he said "Your sugars are skyrocketed!!! then he explained that once i got them down the yeast would go away and told me to get Canesten cream for the itchiness. So with his help i have brought them down and i only have them now if i am REALLY bad, or sometimes before my period. I asked him why the others never told me all this, and he said "I don't know, I really don't know" So i thanked him for figureing it out for me, and told him to never stop caring about his patients, cuz so many others don't. So watch your sugars!!! sorry for my babbling lol!

How many MDs does it takeMy gyno tried and tried and couldn't help my (tmi) itchiness and yeast looking 'buildup' . . .
When you're talking about a "build-up", it is most probably bacterial vaginosis. BV actually "coats" the vagina and the discharge becomes almost like plaque in the area around the vaginal opening, labina minora, etc that you can scrape off with your fingernail. It's much different from the "cottage cheese-like" discharge from a yeast infection.
What my gyno has prescribed for it is Metrogel, which is a vaginal cream inserted in the vagina for about 10 days. During that time, I constantly discharge "chunks" of the bacteria which have built up on the vaginal walls.
