I have PCOS for many years, but within the past few months I have been hit with horrible back pain?
Does anyone else suffer from this? Is it releated to PCOS? Or the drugs?
I've been overwieght my entire life, and I used to be prett active. I can hardly walk from one room to the other without sitting down.
I have been on prednisone for my asthma since December. Every time I come off of it, I have to go back on it again to breathe. Does prednisone cause back pain?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to relieve this pain?
Yeah, sounds like a nerve or muscle problem like Shiphrah said. My Mom had something similar, and it has lasted for months. Her doc said it can last for years, if that is what it is.
Sillie, I so empathize w/you! I don't even want to think about this but YEP I was hit with SEVERE right lower only back pain since last Oct, which has gotten horrificly worse, I take Alleve, helps better than nothing. It's a burning, stabbing pain right where you're talking about. I also get spasms running down my right leg, and recently up to my shoulder (?) MRI showed nada. I'm overweight by 50+ and always stressed, so that's probably my prob.
When you say "drugs", are you taking anything other than the Prednisone? I know a few can actually cause back pain, but rarely. This issue has been brought up before I've seen here, and I use the ThermaCare heat wraps, and a nice HOT heating pad, it really helps, too sore to see a chiro, and if you can afford a massage, do it! I know it hurts, it's not fun. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Prednisone help this kind of pain?
It could be endometriosis. Does it happen more around ovulation or your period?
I had HORRIFIC back pain when I started metformin! I didn't know it could be a side effect. It lasted about a month, through one good period, then got better.
I suffer from back pain anyway. Chiropractors, good ones that is, ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
interesting....did your pcp or obgyn say how or why enlarged ovaries are affecting your back pain? Gotta bring this one up at my reg doc appt next week
I am sorry to hear that you have been having back pain. As someone stated it does sound somewhat like siatica (spelling?).
I also have back pain. I have been going to physical therapy since May 2004 and it really helps. At first I had to go three days a week and I am now down to one day a week. I feel that it has really helped. I used to be in near constant pain and now, I only occasionally have pain -- usually after I really overdo it. For the therapy they put me on something that I think is called a traction table (a roller goes up and down your back) and they also attach electrode "stems" to the part of my neck or back that hurts worst that day. For a while they had me using specialized gym type equipment to correct an alignment problem. After the PT, they give a massage which really helps the sore spots. Sometimes they also do a laser treatment and very occasionally a spinal adjustment (only done 3 times in 10 months). I really think that this has helped. Check to see if it can be covered by your insurance. It was not comepletely covered by my insurance, but the place I go to has a soft spot for teachers (the owners mother is a teahcer) and waives the portion that the insurance does not pay.
Check for fifferent places in you area and see if PT or massage is available and what the payment options are.
Hope that you are in less pain soon. Also, see if your shower has an adjustable setting. Sometimes if they do there is one where the water comes out strong and feels good on sore muscles.
