Does anyone have bad teeth? I have been going to the dentist to fix a LOT of my teeth. I’ve got fillings in just about every tooth (some are very large). Almost 2 years ago, they said all but 1 tooth needed something done to it. It’s not that I don’t take care of them, I brush at least twice a day. I grew up on well water, and I think that has something to do with it along with my family’s history of bad teeth. I was told I need about 4-5 root canals, and about 6 caps or crowns. My insurance only covers $1000 max a year, so it’s taking forever to get things done. Last year, I got all but 3 of the fillings done. Yesterday I went for my cleaning and was told that 1 of those was now too bad for a filling and needed a cap. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced problems with their teeth?

Can't wait to start WW again and loose the other 15lbs I gained with the last pregnancy and the 30lbs I still needed to lose with the first one.

Starlite, I had more problems with my teeth when I lived with my parents. Even our dogs had problems with their teeth! I think it was due to the water. When I moved out 12+ years ago, the problems started going away.
i hear you i have had so much problems with my teeth this year alot of deep cavities and one root canal that they now say has an infection in it. they also say i need a few more root canals but my insurance didn't even cover all of the first one .i give up! here lately almost all of my teeth have been hurting even the front ones when i drink or eat anything sweet or sometimes when i breath in cold air. i grew up going to the dentist every year i always had cavities but i have never had these kind of problems. i wonder if it has something to do with having pcos.
I've been having problems with my teeth for ages now...I have to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled because they are either coming in sideways or they are not coming in all the way and they are causing me alot of pain and aggrivation....I also have to have 3 root canals done...and I broke one tooth my poor molar when ate a cherry that had a pit and I didn't know it. I grew up going to the dentist twice a year like i should...when I got a little older I went once a year...I lost my insurance for a while so I couldn't go..just to expensive...I went back a few months ago and this is what they found...ick..i'm not looking forward to this pain...my pcos pain is bad enough Anywho just wanted you to know that your not alone in the world of bad teeth!
I always thought it had a lot to do with hereditary. Myself, I had all my perm. teeth by the time I was about 9 and got braces soon after. I had my 4 wisdom teeth out by the time I was about 14. My sister was also pretty young when she had the same things done. And my cousin’s daughter got her first tooth at like 2mths! I got a Sonicare toothbrush for my B-day and I love it. My teeth have gotten a little better, but I still have to have all this work done. It sucks cause I can't really afford it.

Well I grew up on a farm and had well water. It is because there is no floride in the water. Rinse your mouth with a floride mouthwash. Also what Rachel said was totally true about using sensodine. I was having the same problem about a year ago and I went to the dentist thinking I my teeth where falling out and he said oh you just have sensitive teeth. Plus another thing is to get a second opinion on your teeth if the dentist is doing tons of work and it just not seem right to you. I went to one dentist and he wanted to do all this work, then I had to have a fronth tooth cavities filled and it hurt so bad that I would not go back to this same dentist because he refused to give me anymore of the numbing stuff. So anyways blah blah I went to a different dentist that said no your mouth is great just sensitive and you have two small cavities. And ended up fixing one without even numbing me, I was amazed. Anyways just don't always trust what they say, they could possible be money motivated. And I don't think that PCOS'ers have more problems with their teeth then anyone else. I know alot of people who have terrible teeth.
I don't have problems with my teeth. I had cavities as a child and none since I was a young teen. My teeth are straight and nice. The dentist told me he wished more people kept their teeth nice like me.
I was just thinking of posting on this very issue! Spooky.
My poor mother did her best to keep my teeth in my head despite my inheriting her bad tooth enamel. Not only did I have a flouride treatment at the dentist every six months, but I had a prescription flouride rinse to be used twice daily and I even had my molars coated in epoxy yearly. I still have fillings in all of my molars. My teeth look nice, but oh nice they are not!
My best friend also has PCOS. Every time either of us goes through a major hormonal shift we develop an abscessed tooth or two. We both take as obsessive care of our teeth as we can, but it doesn't seem to matter. I lost a molar to a severe abscess when I lost a great deal of weight. She nearly did the same. I came off of BCP two months ago and guess what? Yep. Another abscessed tooth. Same thing happened to her when she came off of BCP a year ago. This seemed far too coincidental!
I looked into it and did find some articles linking unstable hormones to losing teeth. I'll try to find the articles again, but I can't promise as they were pretty hard to find the first time.
I don't even mind losing the tooth as much as I do the money! I just finished paying off the I&D, root canal, AND extraction I had late last summer

I haven't got a problem with bad teeth, they are good.. but my problem is with my gums, and I have lost bone density in my lower gum and my 2 front teeth are very loose there and have a gap in the middle now... I tend to build up a lot of plaque, doesn't matter how many times I brush my teeth the plaque is back before I know it.

The weird part of my problems are that my teeth don't really hurt. I was told at my first check up that I had 2 abcess', but I didn't even know it. I think I will go get another opinion b/f getting all this expensive work done. If I can get by with just fillings, that would be MUCH better! I mean, if they don't hurt, why would I need a root canal? I am taking the dentist advise and am now going to floss every day. That was the one part I have always had a hard time doing. But I don't want to be toothless by the time I'm 30.

Yes, I have very bad teeth. I was told by my dentist that people with insulin issues (ie: insulin resistance and/or diabetes) tend to have difficulties with teeth because of the higher unregulated amounts of insulin/glucose in the system. This stands to reason because my Dad, who is type I, has the same dental issues. My Mum, and both brothers are ok (not IR or diabetic). Neither one of my brothers have ever had a cavity and they are both in their 30's and their teeth are perfectly straight and white... as if they have had massive amounts of dental work. Other than typical cleaning, they've had none. My teeth are not only full of holes (most filled) and root canals and cracks, but my front teeth are also crooked! Yikes! I lost my dental insurance about 2 years ago and I am desperately missing it as I need more work done.
