Default Bah Humbug!

Blimey is it only me, here, that hates xmas?

Have just lost another 2 hours of my life to wrapping presents (I have a LOT of kids!) Seems like such a royal waste of time and money when you're forced to be nice to relatives you'd rather avoid (as you do the rest of the year!) and no-one believes in it any more in this country at least, so why bother? Seems like one big commercial exercise.

I hates it! (Cept the alcohol).

Right. Feel better for that.

Aw Jess you stay that way! I used to love it when I was a kid - but as you get older it starts to accumulate unhappy memories as well as happy, also it seems to go on forever, now (Xmas adverts started Nov 1st! What's that all about?) I like to see my kids happy but I am SOOOO glad when it's Dec 26th and it's all over and real life resumes!

We are not a predominantly xian culture anymore, and it hasn't snowed at xmas since I was a kid in the 1960s! So the whole thing seems a waste of time...

You go on enjoying it, though, I'll mumble to myself in a corner! Bah humbug!

I’m there with you Pollysis !! I use to love Christmas when I was younger my parents were quite poor so I never really had much but that never mattered because I had my whole family around me. Fast forward to now and it’s just not the same it so commercialised with not just children but people in general expecting expensive gifts, and of course the people who made it special for me when I was younget are no longer with me. Last year I was so anti-Christmas that I never bought a present for anyone or trimmed up I was the ultimate Mrs Scrooge !! LOL and don’t even get me started about celebrating New Years Eve the best adult Christmas I had was when my ex left me and I spent the whole of Christmas drunk!!! ha ha ha

This year I am hoping things will be different so I am taking little things at a time like thinking about buying presents for people instead of saying bah humbug …………….. mmmm ……….. I MAY even trim up !!! LOL

LOL Sarah Louise and as a cheese lover, at least you have all those lovely cheese selections that crop up in Tescos etc at this time of year!

The xmas spent drunk is probably the best solution. I have some grsily xmas memories of my ex - it's a time of year brings out the worst in some people. Like him dragging me away from the family as he wanted to go early to watch the xmas 'Only Fools' (he was a cockney), only to then get home and spend the whole hour or whatever on the phone to his family in London, and not watching telly at all... My 2 youngest are his, but he never sends them anything for xmas, and yet he's always in church and banging on about religion so why's he, of all people, not bother? I spose that's at the heart of my dislike of it - the hypocrisy.

Also the horrible memories. My mum died when I was a kid, just a few weeks before xmas and I well remember how grim that day was, my dad doing his valiant best with two little kids, on his own, etc. Even looking at the tree reminded us of her. It's probably really one for nice nuclear families rather than anyone who's life has got, er interesting.

Last year to cap it all my beloved dog died Dec 28th so even the kids are dreading it this year as everything reminds them of him - esp my autistic son, whose dog he was. I found him crying the other night, on his own upstairs - because this will be his first xmas without his grandad or the dog, and he can't face it. My kids are good - they understand I can only afford to spend £50 or so on each of them - but it must be hard for them when you see what their friends get. They could do without being sideswiped by the whole nightmare that is xmas, just as they were getting over grandad and doggy, really. But that aside, I've never liked it.
