Unhappy Barely starting my Treatment!!! Need Help!

Hello,

I have recently been diagnosed wit PCOS,I'm 24 years old & have been TTC for about 4 years with no success. Now i'm seeing a Fertility Doc, and she is going to get me on a pill that is going to help me get my period going, after that, she is going to do an ultrasound, i forgot what it was called, it's the one that they put dye in your tubes so that they can see if they are not damages or blocked. Well here is my big fear, they say that the test is extremely painful...can anyone that has gone throught that give me some pointers. I mean i know that any pain is worth it, but still a bit nervous... By the way sorry, not very familiar in abbriviations!

Baby Dust to all you ladies TTC!!!

Baby Dust to all you ladies TTC!!!
Hi there,
I am 28 years old and I also have PCOS. I was diagnosed with this last 2007 and we are trying to conceive (TTC) for 2 years now. Like you I am also seeing a Fertility doctor. I am currently on my 2nd cycle of medication.
The one you mentioned regarding the dye, its called
A sono-hysterogram - this is performed to screen for uterine abnormalities and occasionally to detect whether the fallopian tubes are open. A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) also checks for uterine problems as well as determining if the fallopian tubes are open.
I underwent this procedure last july and we are thankful because the result was Normal. About the pain, i did not feel any pain at all. They gave me a small amount of anesthesia so I was asleep during the procedure. My OB said that if the procedure was done without this then it would really be painful. I have a colleague who also underwent this procedure without the anesthesia and she felt pain. The procedure was very easy, i think less than half and hour.
Aside from hysterogram I also took some hormone test (blood tests) LH, FSH, Prolactin and i forgot the other one.
I am taking metformin for my PCOS 3x a day and follic acid regularly in preparation for pregnancy.
In two weeks time we will know if I am aleady positive. Im keeping my fingers crossed.
Good Luck to us. I hope this helps...God Bless!!!

Question thanx

Thank you for your help!!! Well things are getting a little complicated, i was suppose to start my period on 11/3/09, and i didnt, my gyno said that if by that time i still didnt have a flow well to call in the office, so that they can go ahead and give me provera to help me start my period. Well i did call in and they prescribed provera, there was a mix up and they end up sendign my prescription to another pharmacy. well i was going to call in the next day to let them know and i started to spott!! I was excited, my flow was here yaaay... Well i waited and didnt get my meds, thinking i had a flow...well i was dead wrong all i did wa spott, so i kept saying to myself..."im gonna get it soon...and a week passed and it didnt happen...so there goes me again and called my gyno...finally i picked up my porvera and i started drinking it... i have 2 pills left. My concern is that now i dont know if its going to go how it was suppose to be in the beggining, since i waited to long....Because my gyno said in the 3rd day of my cycle, i was to go in and have some blood work done... and on the 12 day, thats when i have to get HSG done....so i think that i screwd this one month up hu? If any of you Cysters have anything similar happen or know about this, i would really appreaciate your help!!!

And Baby Dust to you all!!!

I don't know if this post is too late. I had to have the dye shot through my tubes as well. I was not put to sleep at all and was wide awake through out the whole thing, even watched on the screen and the dye spread through my tubes. I had horrible cramping whenever he would shoot more dye in. Nothing major, I did not cry or feel like it was too much to handle. Just real bad cramps every once in a while he was shooting the dye.

Good Luck!

I had the HSG done as well when we first started TTC. It didn't hurt at all and I've heard from other ladies that the only time that it hurt was if there was a blockage. About the cycle days. Count day 1 as full flow, not any of the days where you were just spotting. you should be fine.

I'm scheduled to have my HSG on 12/4... Sounds like I'll be having mine before you AngelDust. I'll let you know how it goes. I do know that they don't plan on giving me any type of anethetic so, I should be awake for the entire procedure. The NP I dealt with t schedule my appointment told me to take 800mg of Ibuprofen an hour before the test to help with any pain. Hope this helps!

Good luck w/ the HSG! I had mine yesterday and it was extremely painful but I didn't take any ibuprofen or anything beforehand and the technician was really rough with me (guess she was having a bad day). My uterus kept spitting the dye back out so she had to do it a few times. It was over fairly quickly and it was really cool to the image of the dye going through the tubes. My results were all clear! Hope yours are too!

HI AngelDust,
I have had PCOS for 15 yrs, although only in the last 10 has it been fully understood and diagnosed. There are so many treatments, both good and bad, some effective some not, and unfortunatley it will take a while for the right pill or medication to be found for you. Can I say though that is it only recently that I (after many years of gynos, specialist, IVF treatment, and several other witch doctors) have discovered a Natropath that specialises in PCOS, the results after just 4 weeks has been amazing. I have spent years being poked and proded, and now I am finally seeing results.
Don't rule out or be afraid of these prelimanry tests, ultrasounds etc as they explore the severity of your PCOS. Some can be a bit painful (oh how I hate internal ultrasounds) but it is no more unpleasant then a bad period pain (for those that get periods...LOL).
Lucky you have been diagnosed early and there is some hope for you not to be let gone to far and be treated early.
Good luck with the tests and keep your chin up.........
Tishie.
