I have just been diagnosed with a mild case of PCOS. I disagree with the word "mild", but why does a person have to take BC pills? I have had a hysterectomy, so I am not concerned with fertility. I could just keep shaving all the extra hair off my body.
Or, is there a reason for my health that I should be taking BC pills??? I am sort of confused.
I was perscribed Ocella, but after reading people's experiences with it, I am very hesitant to start taking this pill. I have migraines already and bad skin, so I don't want that to get worse.
I'm surprised your doctor prescribed a BCP if you have migraines. Both my aunts have terrible migraines and doctors have always recommended other forms of contraception to them. But then you have to remember that a BCP 'treats' everyone differently.
I think the main reasons women are on BCPs (outside of contraception) is to give them a regular period and keep on top of their hair and acne. Why do you think the doctor prescribed them to you? Perhaps because of your bad skin?

I would get a second opinion. If you have had a hysterectomy and are just looking for symptom control, BCP's aren't really the best way to go for many. If you still had a uterus and were concerned with shedding the lining and such, BCP's would be fine, but you don't! For excess hair their are other options (Vaniqa, shaving, waxing, laser) and for acne there are meds as well.
I am always surprised by docs labeling someone as "mild" or "severe" PCOS. I have never read any diagnostic criteria that differentiate severity.
