Default BC shots?

Hey there...

Have any of you all tried either the Depo-Provera shot or the Lunelle shot? (The DP is every three months and the Lunelle is once a month.) I'm debating trying one of them and I'm wondering if anyone here has tried them and if there were any adverse reactions in conjuction with Met or PCOS in general.

Thanks!

i for one did not react well at all to the depo shot. i bled non-stop for 9 months. i have heard several cysters say that the shot either triggered pcos symptoms or made them worse. hope this helps.

Thumbs down

In my experience, Depo-Provera is bad news. There have been quite a few threads on this site about it. Here is one:

Do a search for Depo Provera and you'll find some other opinions.

HTH!

Post evil depo

I'd think real hard about the depo...IMO it caused my PCOS--certainly kicked off a severe weight gain, acne, nightmares, maniacal rages, and I bled for four MONTHS upon stopping the shot. I got an IUD (copperT) later and love it...no hormones, no pills to remember, pays for itself in about a year (& lasts 10). They also have a Mirena plastic IUD that releases a small amount of progestin (similar to depo or norplant but much lesser dose and not crystallized in the muscle to bother you for years afterwards). Sorry, I hate depo and can't help but rant!

I thought I had replied to this, but I guess not. Maybe it was one of the many times AOL booted me off lately.

I'm just going to say I agree with guineapig. All of my PCOS stuff started after I took depo. Please do not take it. I was absolutely regular before it. I had a thick head of hair, hardly ever had any zits, and very fine body hair. Now, I've gained loads of weight I can't shift, my hair's finally growing back in after falling out, my body hair is twice as thick, my face is spotty and my periods, well, very very irregular at best. And this is now 5 years after my last shot.

Check out the Epigee birth control forum website for info. on this in the current posts and archived ones. A lot of people had negative things to say about it. I've never used it myself but did come across a recent magazine article which I mentioned there (posting as 'GOLD')
