Default BC- should i go back

seeing my gyno on monday and i am thinking of discussing going back on BC.
my periods have become pretty much nonexistant unless i take meds to induce it.

so i am debating on whether or not i should suck it up and go back to BC (even though i hate it), or if i should look into ther options.

i worry b/c currently i am going on 155 days.... and the the period before that it was about 180 until i got provera. i am 30 and i smoke- so that worries me too.

any advice or suggestions would be welcomed.

TIA!

itsonlyme--normally i would think you should go back on BCP to help normalize your AF. however, as you know with smoking and BCP comes a risk of blood clots and other not so nice things.
would your gyno be interested in just giving progesterone every so often to induce AF?

you could also try metformin. I have always had a period everry 28-36 days but didn't ovulate. ever. but taking metformin I ovulate and still have regular periods. talk to your doc about it and see what she says

itsonlyme: I don't have much helpful advice for you but can say that I'm in the same boat. I don't have periods for months now that I have gone off BCPs. I don't intend to go back on BCPs, though, simply because I don't think that taking pills everyday is a sustainable way to live healthfully. So I'm now exploring acupuncture and TCM as a way to bring my hormones into balance. I can't tell you that I've been succcessful so far, but it's something to consider.

Perhaps you could try a lower oestrogen pill (20mg instead of 30/35mg) if you're worried about age and smoking?

I would say yes, it is worth a try. I was like you and then after a while on bc i came off and got regular periods so it helped a lot! xx
