Hi! I'm April from Gabriola Island, BC. I was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago, but I've had symptoms since my teens (I'm 33 yo next month). We are trying to conceive.
I'm in Blind Bay between Kelowna and Kamloops!!! We are currently seeing Dr. Wise in Kelowna and waiting for the money fairy lol... to come so we can try injectables with IUI.

Hey ladies,
I am trying to figure out what kind of infertility insurance we may have but I am having trouble finding answers. Does anyone here work for the BC Public Service? I know its a bit of a shot in the dark but we have been TTC for a long time and we just found out that not only do I have PCOS but we also have MFI as well. Our doctor would like us to do IUI or better yet an IVF. I highly doubt that any of this is covered but I need to find out.
Nate you would have to contact your extended helth plan and ask them if they cover a certin amount of infertility drugs.... I know one extended helth plan i was on coverd a certin amount per life time.
That is how we had our girls, we did 4 rounds of clomid and bought the injectables for 3 rounds...... turns out we got prego with the girls on the 4th round of clomid when we werent even charting or trying hard....
so for the ladys who are here in vancouver area, did you guys want to get together for coffee or something some time in the next few months?

I am new to the board. I wish I knew about this when I was trying to conceive! I am from Ladner, BC and for anyone who is trying and getting frustrated, DON'T GIVE UP HOPE! I was diagnosed about 5 years ago after trying to get pregnant and miscarrying. I then went to my OB/GYN and she knew just by looking at me. Ran tests etc and the results were horrible. She said that as it was, I would have about a 2% chance of conceiving and I would never carry to term because my hormones were so bad. I then was put on metformin and 6 months later I was pregnant with my daughter (now 3). We waited until she was 1 to start trying again, went back on the metformin, nothing was happening - not even ovulation, so added clomid and 2 months later I was pregnant with my son, now 16 weeks. The metformin made me really sick the whole time I was on it (massive GI upset) and I needed to make sure I was near a bathroom at all times, but if you hang in there, it will happen. Don't lose hope.
I am now looking to find out if anyone has or is using cinnamon to control symptoms of PCOS. I am wanting to lose weight and control hair growth. When on the metformin, I drop weight without trying, but not so easy when I am not on it. I am taking birth control to regulate periods, but I so want to do more, and I do not want to be on metformin for my life, especially when it makes me so sick.
scuba- i highly recomend going to see dr Anthony Cheung from the UBC fertility clinic. he can get your PCOS regulated. I was seeing him before i started TTC and he got me on the best HBC that worked for me....

Thanks for the information. I actually saw a Hormonal and Reproductive Specialist before I conceived my daughter and he didn't need to do anything because the metformin worked magic and made my hormones perfectly normal, so really there was no info given or anything....unfortunately. I am actually thinking I might go to a naturopathic doc and see what can be done naturally.
It would be nice to maybe meet for coffee sometime. Let me know what your free days are, and maybe we can arrange something.
