Hey ladies,
I am trying to figure out what kind of infertility insurance we may have but I am having trouble finding answers. Does anyone here work for the BC Public Service? I know its a bit of a shot in the dark but we have been TTC for a long time and we just found out that not only do I have PCOS but we also have MFI as well. Our doctor would like us to do IUI or better yet an IVF. I highly doubt that any of this is covered but I need to find out.
I would greatly appreciate any info.
I work in the BC Public Service too, I started 7 months ago, so I only just got my benefits last month, so I'm not sure. But if you find out I would love to know.
Oh, and I'm Kelsie from Vernon.

Not sure if this helps at all(I'm covered under HEABC/BCGEU) but if your coverage is from Pacific Blue Cross you can get access to your benefit coverage from their online service. Available here. It's easy to sign up and easy to use.
I know when I reviewed the benefit book, technically fertility meds and treatments should be covered but when I reviewed the website and spoke to someone at Bluecross...there is supposedly no coverage for either.
Hopefully this helps.

Hey...I actually do not know any good doc's there, because I was diagnosed while in Ontario and I have a great doc there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Hi all, Im in Williams Lake & having a hard time finding a Dr who knows more than me about PCOS...and I dont know much. I grew up in Ladner & have family there still, so I could easily come down to see a Dr. there. I dont need a fertility specialist. I have hair growth, zits, obesity, mood swings...etc. I am on spironolactone & Im supposed to be on 1500mg of Met but cant seem to get up to that...right now Im back to 500mg,symptoms are too bad. Am I the only person in the world not losing weight on Met ? I went 3 months with no carbs, jogged everyday & took Met...still nothing. Help Please !!!!
HI BlueJeanBaby
Sorry to hear about all your issues. I too had alot of GI upset with Met, but I suffered through it. I found that as long as I had Immodium with me, I could handle it. Don't get me wrong, I felt like I had the flu ALL THE TIME, but either I just got used to it, or it did get better a bit. Either way, hang in there, and maybe try increasing by half a pill instead of a whole one at a time. I was on 2000 mg and it did the trick. I did lose weight, but not sure what dose I was on when it started. As for the hair and skin, I didn't notice any decrease in hair growth on me, and I didn't have skin issues, so not too knowledgeable about that. I live in Ladner as well and I was going to an OB/GYN in Richmond. My story started when I was trying to conceive and nothing was happening. It was the OB/GYN that diagnosed me just by looking at me (she is one of the leading docs in PCOS research and is getting more involved with the medical board etc - I think that's what she told me anyway). Either way, it is for sure good to find a doc that knows the ins and outs of PCOS, as it is very hard to diagnose due to many different symptoms and not all are the same for every woman. If you are trying to conceive, then don't give up! I was able to have a beautiful daughter (now 3) and I just had my son in Dec. It is possible, as I was originally miscarrying and was told that my hormones were the worst the doc had ever seen and IF I did get preg, I would never be able to carry full turn, my body would abort every time before 12 weeks (after 12 weeks the placenta takes over the hormones and all is good). Anyway, maybe look into trying to contact a doc down here and see what you can do, or even get a referral to somewhere else. I hope I helped a bit???
Hello, my name is Maria and I am from Vancouver.
I am 26 and I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 23.
I have two kids which I had while I was a teenager (before the onset of my PCOS).
I have now been seeing Dr. Anthony Cheung at the UBC Center for Reproductive Health. I managed to get pregnant after 4 cycles of clomiphene (150mg) but sadly the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage after 9 weeks.
I started clomiphene again shortly after the miscarriage and got pregnant on the first cycle this time (yay!). I am now 7 weeks pregnant and hopefully all goes well this time :-).
I would love to get to know more women with PCOS in the Vancouver area. There is also a PCOS support group that meets monthly in the Vancouver area, if anyone is interested.
Did some tests and have normal hormone levels FSH and the others and my Dr says he's not worried about me having PCOS. I am due for an ultrasound in 2 weeks.
What medication are any of you with normal hormone levels on?
I live in North Delta. Got my dx 2 years ago in the Caribbean (best $$ I ever spent!).
I'm now back in the Metro area and looking for a PCOS friendly GP who is accepting new patients. Preferably in the North Delta/New West/Surrey area. Was on 1g metformin but that's long since run out and I don't have anyone I can go to for a new Rx.
