Exclamation BCP 300lbs +

Right something tells me I have asked this before on here in the past week, but if I did I can't find the post, my memory seems to be going!

I never been on BCP and found that it has not really been offer and I think this is because I am overweight (350lbs) I consider myself to be in good condition bar the PCOS and bouts of depression and think going onto BCP might be the only way I am going to see AF again and more regular.

It's been 270 days since I last saw AF, and I have been on Metformin for 4 months and still nothing.

I have my next hospital appointment end of May and want to discuss going onto BCP if AF has not showed up by then (and I am really thinking it won't)

I would like to hear from some other people that have used it or currently using it who are over 300lbs, as there seems to be a stigma here giving it to people overweight because of the risk of DVT.

I would be really grateful for any imput on this!

I am 325 lbs and i justed posted a question about bcp u may see it im sassy5976 but anyway i may not be able to answer ur question, but the pills really help me regulate my period as well as gave me energy. When i asked about my weight and bcps he assurd me that it may only be water retention. But by us being big women your doctor may be concerned about blood pressure and heart disease, because bcp does heighten that risk. Please understand, i dont want to go back bcp because im afraid of weight gain, but im also afraid of cervical and uterine cancers that is affilated with not having a regular cycle. I hope that helped u, feel free to contact me.

Alison,

I'm 305 lbs and on BCPs. Without them, I only had about 3 periods per year if I was lucky. I have never had any problems while on them. My gyno and endo. doctors' recommended that I go on them and metformin to help with my PCOS and both doctors' told me that the benefits outway the risks. I really think that they have helped me. I hope that helped. Feel free to contact me.

Alison I'm currently not on bcp because we were ttc, this august will be 3 years, but I was over 300lbs when I was I had no problems at all. When I stopped taking them the problems started I had af for about 6 months then nothing for well over a year. bcp also helped me lose some weight because af came got rid of the extra water weight that I built up each month. Could you go to another doc and see what they say, one who is familiar with pcos and know what could happen if af doesn't show up for long periods of time. Hope all works out for you.

PS what is DVT?

Rochelle,

DVT stands for Deep Vein Thrombosis, which I believe is basically blood clots. Doctors worry that heavier women on BCPs have a higher risk of getting them than thinner women on BCPs. Take care.

I weigh 350 lbs. and started BCP's a couple of weeks ago. I experienced a breakthrough bleeding on the second day, but so far things are fine. I am also concerned about the side effects, especially blood clots. A week before i started the BCP's i came off of hormone therapy that i was on for a year. That was much worse than the BCP's and i did okay on that. I was taking it to treat hyperplasia, which can lead to uterine cancer, so you kind of have to weigh things out.

Apparently I'm the lone dissenter here. The risk of DVT is higher than you think, and quite real. it DOES happen, and it happened to ME. I was 18, just out of high school, and had a clot that quite nearly killed me. It's affected my life in some profoudn ways. My leg veins are partially closed, so my legs swell frequently, I have to take extreme precautions if I fly somewhere, and I get frequent bad leg pain, as a result of the swelling. Not to mention, I can't take ANY hormones ever again, as the risk for another dvt is even higher.

Is it worth the risk? That's your call. Just know that the risk is very real, and very deadly. There ARE other options for you!

What about doing Prometrium or NPC to induce AF? Like do it for 7-14 days, quit, wait & see if AF visits. If so, repeat on CD 14-28. And so on.

You can also do Provera pills, but I'm just not into synthetic progestins. To each his own.

The lower the estrogen in the pill, the less the risk of DVTs (& strokes, migraines, bloating, etc)...what about the Ring? It has the lowest blood levels of estrogen, and should still give ya AF. The new YAZ pill is also lower in estrogen, although not as low as Ring.
