Which BCP?

I have now decided, as Metformin isn't quite the miracle drug for me, to go on the pill. However, my doctor mentioned months ago the one that helps acne is Dianette. From reading other posts I can see there are alternatives such as Yasmin.

My question is, which pill is the best one for PCOS. Is Dianette outdated nowadays? I really don't want to put loads of weight on with the pill, so does that influence which brand I choose.

By the way, my PCO symptoms are not too bad, mild acne, slightly heavy, no hairloss, and slight moustache.

I have used Yasmin and did not see much difference. The only difference I saw is it increased my urination and made me very irritable. Redstang

I highly recommend the pill Cyclessa. It is a tri-phasic pill containing desogestrel as the progestin. I know what everyone says about tri-phasics but it has done me nothing but "good". I have classic PCOS therefore I am thin and have mild hair and acne. This pill does wonders for the hair and acne and does not cause me the bloating and other uncomfortable feelings I get with the others pills I've taken lately. I am comparing it to ortho-cyclen tri-cyclen, demulin, and the ortho evra patch. The lower estrogen content (25) helps me feel more normal than the others listed. I'd ask about it ! Hope this testimonial helps.

Even with PCOS, every woman will respond differently to different pills. For instance, I do best on Nordette, which is usually considered AWFUL for PCOS because of the high level of androgen. However, I have no acne, hair loss, facial hair, etc., nor are any of my androgens high, so that might be why I do well on it.

Dianette is not available in the US, so I really don't know anything about it. It has been in Europe for many years, but for some reason the U.S. Food and Drug Administration refuses to approve it. If Yasmin is available, I know it is the drug of choice, according to my endo, for PCOS, but I think you could still do fine on other kinds. I think it has to be a trial and error with different brands until you find one that works for you.
