Default BCP & Acne

Hi,

I just started on the birth control pill Alesse but I take the generic one which is called Avaine. I am on my third week of orange pills. My question is that since I have started taking them my acne has gotten worse and is driving me nuts!!! Is the acne something that will get better? My other question is since I started taking these pills my boobs are really sore and have been since about the first week. I have also heard that when you are on BCP your boobs can get bigger. Well my boobs feel like they have went up a cup size since starting them. Is this things that can start this fast with only taking them for 3 weeks. Does anyone have any answers or suggestions to this. Sorry if this was TMI. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!!!!

I've have been on numerous different BCP over the last 3 years. I take yasmin now and it's pretty much as good as it's gonna get for me. I've never been on the one you mentioned your on so i can't vouch for that one but my boobs are often sore for more than a week. Especially when first starting a BCP. Is this your first time on a BCP? It can just be that your body isn't used to getting all of those hormome level changes and your boobs are supposed to feel tender. My boobs were really sore all week and i'm supposed to get my period in a couple of days. The soreness should go away eventually if it doesn't in a month or by the end of your next period then i would ask your doctor. With the hole acne thing... again it could just flare up because of the changes in hormones due to the bcp, my acne didn't fully clear up but it keeps it to a minimum and so i don't look like i just hit puberty. and again if the acne keeps getting worse it shouldn't. So give it another month at least for the acne and if it doesn't calm down then i would ask you doctor.
hope this helps...

Hi,

Thank you for your response. This should help me. This is my first time being on birth control pills. I only went on them to regulate my periods. I was sick if waiting for my period for 40-50 days at a time. This is the only thing I need the pill for. I am not sexually active and have never been. I am going to turn 21 soon I am still a virgin. I hope the acne thing clears up some soon. My other question for you is do you have problem with facial hair? If you do what do you use to help get rid of it. My doctor gave me a prescription for Vaniqua in April and I used it until about September and there was no difference so I quit using it. Any answers would be very helpful. Thanks.

I took alesse a while back and had trouble with my skin breaking out on it. It also worsened my extra hair over time. It has a faily high androgen level in the progestin so that must have been the cause because with other bc pills low in androgen my skin clears up and hair goes away. Ask your doctor for a pill with low androgen effect.

The sore breasts thing is just a bc pill thing. It does get better after you are on them awhile. I take 400 units of vitamin E at my doctors suggestion and this has helped a ton. The pill is great for regulating periods though. Good luck! Hope this helps.
