What BPCs are some of you on that help control PCOS symptoms (mainly acne)? I have been on Yasmin for about 4 1/2 years and for about the past year, it has not been helping nearly as well as it used to. I need something that is going to block the testosterone but not have too much estrogen (because I can't afford to gain more weight or get any more depressed). Also, the Yasmin costs me $40 per month. I want to take something that comes in generic form so I can get it for $10 per month. Right now, I am spending over $160 per month for meds.....and I have insurance!

i am taking APRI it is generic for ---- i can't remember at the moment. It has seem to helped with the acne. and it is only 10.00 per month for me. However, a friend of mine who is not PCOS has had trouble with bad cyctic acne for a while and is on orth-tri-lo and it has seemed to help her alot. However, i am not sure if it is good for pcos
Be careful with tricyclic anything--it has unopposed estrogen (at the start of month if I recall correctly), which can be bad for us PCOS gals. Ortho Tri Cyclen regular made me break out teen-boy style & gain weight. Maybe the Ring or Desogen or Mircette? Ring & Mircette are pretty low estrogen, although I don't know how much Mircette costs. Ring is pricey though--$47 at CVS if your insurance doesn't get it.

Well, I talked to my dr today and she prescribed Lo-Estrin. Does anyone else take this? I looked it up and read that it is one of the top 3 worst BCPs for PCOS. I asked the pharmacist and she said she had no idea....go figure. My dr is just a general practitioner, not an OBGYN. I did not want to have to go to the OBGYN since I was already at her office but I guess I will have to now and just take the Yasmin for one more month in the meantime.

why don't you add spironolactone to the yasmin? it's an antiandrogen, and it is the generic form of aldactone. not too expensive. yasmin's progestin contains 25 mg of spironolactone, but doses of at least 100 mg/day are usually good for acne and excess hair.
