Default BCP dilemma

I am thinking about going back on the pill. I haven't taken them in over 2 years. I am really wanting to get my periods regulated basically. I am however afraid of the other problems I have with PCOS. Hair loss, excess hair weight gain.....What pills do you girls take that are helpful and not causing your symptoms to worsen? I go to the dr in a couple weeks and want to knwo what to ask for. TIA!!

i take yasmin. i've not been on it long enough to really report how much of my PCOS symptoms it has/will help, but i can tell you that in comparison to the other BCPs i've taken, i find yasmin much more tolerable. i've had NO bloating, no weight gain (i don't think), no spotting, nor breakthrough bleeding. i started it day 1 of my period (thank god i got my period soon after i got my prescription for yasmin!). yasmin is supposed to be one of the best (if not THE best) BCP available for women with PCOS in the united states. it has no androgen properties. almost all other BCPs contain a progestin component that is derived from testosterone, and therefore could make PCOS symptoms like hair growth/loss worse. yasmin contains drsp, which is equivalent to 25 mg of Spironolactone, an antiandrogen. i take 100 mg of Spironolactone in addition to yasmin each day to help block the excess androgens which contribute to facial hair etc. i've heard a few women say that their hair loss got worse on yasmin, or after stopping yasmin. but i think that's rare. i think that yasmin couldn't make any facial/body hair problem worse, since it works to decrease androgens. hope this helps.

The hair loss thing is a big thing that concerns me. My hair is falling out good enough on it's own that I don't want to help it along!

well, a lot of women take spironolactone to combat hair loss. there is 25 mg of that in yasmin. i mentioned that SOME women have commented on hair loss getting worse when taking yasmin, but it is definitely not the norm, and also they may just be experiencing their hair loss worsening, and the dose of spironolactone in the yasmin wasn't enough to help it. i think yasmin is the best BCP for PCOS.

I'm also taking Yasmin. I don't have a lot of hair problems but I noticed that while on Yasmin, I don't have to tweeze my eyebrows and wax my upper lip as often as I used to...so I'm thinking the Yasmin is helping. I haven't gained any weight from it, either.
