Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to me. I was taking Yasmin for about a year, had no problems on it at all, was fine, but decided to stop it. Not long after I noticed that my eyesight had gone a bit dodgy, couldn't see the presentation in meetings, couldn't tell who was waving at me unless they we standing right next to me, couldn't read the road signs until after the junction etc. So I went to the optician who told me I was short sighted and need to wear glasses or contact lenses all the time now. Bearing in mind that for about six years I've had to have glasses for reading, it was a bit of a surprise. The optician was equally as surprised as me and couldn't explain why there had been such a radical change in my eyesight in just under a year.
I wouldn't have put the two things together but I was complaining to my friend about having to wear glasses now (not to mention fork out for them and the contact lenses) and she mentioned that the exact same thing had happened to her, she'd gone from having 20/20 vision to being short sighted after stopping the pill.
I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on whether this is all one big coincidence or whether there is a link between short sightedness and the pill.
Thanks for reading this, if you managed to get this far!

There was one BCP I took that made it hard for me to wear contacts, which is a not too common but not exactly rare side effect... the hormones, i think, can change the shape of your eyes. I could still see OK with my glasses but couldn't stand to wear my contacts. In my case it went away when I stopped those pills... but I guess sometimes it persists. I know that if you are considering lasik vision surgery (I think that is what it is called?? so you don't need glasses or contacts any more??) I have seen it suggested that you wait until you are done having children because pregnancy can also have an effect on your vision and/or the shape of your eyeballs.
So ... you're not alone. I hadn't thought of this in years but yeah, the first pill i was on, it did make my contacts feel weird.

I have noticed that my eyesight is not what it used to be, but I was just chalking it up to old age. Others in my family got glasses in their 20s. I'm 35.
I am not on Yaz, though. I was on Ortho-Tricyclen for about 6 months and more recently Nortrel? Nor-something... it is a generic. and I just stopped taking bcp about 2 weeks ago. But I noticed my eyesight getting worse over the past couple of months. In my opinion, it is not related. But your situation could be. I don't know.
Also, I do not know if this is in your list of concerns, but diabetes/high sugar can affect your eyesight. has your sugar been checked?

OMG, this totally happened to me! I stopped taking my BCP in Feb 07 and thought I was going blind shortly thereafter! I got an eye exam and now I have to wear glasses all the time! I'd definitely like to know what the link is, and if it's reversible!

Interesting! I was prescribed glasses a while back when I was taking a break from BCP (but before I was diagnosed with PCOS, I don't need to wear them constantly, just at the cinema, in lectures and stuff, and had good eyesight before that), now I've been back on bcp for nearly a year I actually feel like my glasses actually make my sight worse and I don't use them in lectures anymore and can see fine from the back. I might mention when I book my next eye test in the next month or two.

I'm currently taking Orthotrycycline Lo. I was on it for about a year, when i noticed I couldn't wear my contacts my eyes constantly ached. I then stopped it for about 2 months and my eyes felt better. I started the birth control up again and my eyes hurt so badly.
I have a girly appointment today, so i'll ask her what is going on. The paper that comes with the birth control says it's a serious side effect.
I have had intermittent eye twitching and distorted vision in my left eye since starting Ovcon 35 last August. It's a worrisome problem! Both eyes seem to be a lot drier than they were before I started the Pill, and I have noticed that they are red most of the time. I also feel some degree of pressure in the left eye. Opthamologist says everything looks ok, but, I'd really like to get another opinion. Never had these problems before the Pill, so there MUST be a connection.
I was at the OBGYN/GYN yesterday and asked her of there may be a relation and she said ppl experience irritation, but not full blown hurting and headaches that I was experiencing.
As BRbangle was saying there has to be a connection.
Problems with vision, particularly for those who wear contact lenses, is mentioned in the information packets for BCP's. The advise is to usually call the doctor and stop the medication as it can be a serious side effect. There isn't much that can be done about it, other than switching to a different brand of BCP.
I had been on birth control for about a year and a half when i skipped 3 pills so my pharmicist said to stop taking them until i got my period and then start taking them again. about 2 weeks after i stopped i had my first ever migrane and i lost partial vision in my left eye and since then i had very blurry vision out of nowhere. my endocrinologist said i should get an mri and i did and it was normal. i got my eyes checked and they appeared to be fine.
i've started birth control again and it hasn't happened since and my eye sight is fine now. my doctor said it could have been stress that caused it because i was really stressed around that time
