Which BCP has been the best at keeping weight gain and water retention at bay?
Hi,
I'm on a quest, and it sounds like lots of y'all have been on the same quest to find a good BCP. I'm just curious which pills y'all find the best for you at keeping weight gain and water retention at bay?
I'm also curious about which pill has worked the best for each of you in general with this whole PCOS thing.
Yasmin Yasmin Yasmin I have never been this UNbloated!
My face is thinner than it has ever been in my life, and the rest of me is doing fine too.
The progestin in Yasmin is a mild diuretic so there you go...just make sure your doctor keeps an eye on your potassium etc.
Best of luck!
Wendy

Tried Ortho-Tri, terrible terrible. Mircette saved my life. Then tried Yasmin which was OK but had some side effects.
Now I'm back on Kariva (generic Mircette) with a low dose of Spiro. Ten bucks a month and I'm in a deliciously good mood.
I took that quiz and I'm Curry Flavored, how cool is that?
Yasmin had the exact opposite effect on me. The progestin in theory may be similar to aldactone, but the pill is very estrogenic and this caused me major water weight problems similar to the higher estrogen pills. Because if the estrogenic effects of this pill, I equate it symptom wise with Demulen 1-50. I got no benefits of being on a 30mg estrogen pill. I would actually lose weight on the week I was off Yasmin--like 5-7 pounds which would come back as soon as I started a new pack. I found that I had to take a high dose of aldactone to counteract the effects of this pill. For me, it was not good at all. I retained fluid so badly I felt like I was going to bust out of my skin half of the time. I hated that feeling.
Yasmin I would say is good for people who need a more estrogenic pill--I personally fare far better on more progestation pills. I am currently on Cyclessa which has a high progestational effect and for the first time in years, I do not feel like I need to take aldactone in order to maintain a reasonable weight. Cyclessa is clinically proven to cause an average weight loss and I am happy to report I have continued to lose on this pill. I am not bloated or retaining fluid anywhere and my legs do not feel like stovepipes.
I would say either pill would be a good option to consider if weight is a concern for you, but your doctor will need to help you decide which end of the hormonal spectrum you need to be on.
I too do better with higher progestin formulations. I see a marked difference in my mood, skin and sex drive on cyclessa. Yasmin kept my weight down at first but I had occasional bloating thruout the month and my butt would grow to twice it's size. Moodwise I was moody often and I had pms on Yasmin big time. I guess everyone is different. I wish I could say I have lost weight on cyclessa but so far I am kind of stuck on the same weight. I am thinking of adding aldactone and starting a strict diet for the new years. Most of the bcp pills do cause some gain, but I think so far for me alesse has been the best weight-wise (lost weight, no bloating) but I also lost hair and sex drive and lubrication, so had to quit it.
