I was told awhile ago by a female gynecologist that long term use of a bcp like dianne does cause some more hormonal baggage like fertility problems. She said no more than three years. But even that seems too long. No other doctor has addressed this issue when prescribing dianne and I am not sure if this applies to other bcp.
not for me! I was on bcp on and off since the age of 16. I got off it in May, ttc'd like crazy and got pregnant in 3 weeks (at the age of 30)!!!! My doc actually told me that women with PCOS are most fertile the month they come off the pill. For a woman who would never have a period on her own (only with bcp) I am grateful she was right!

I heard that too and you're supposed to come off it for a couple of months and then keep taking it again (if you on it for several years that is).
Personally, I've never had trouble conceiving after coming off the pill -actually I believe it helped me conceive as it helped with my hormone production (got pregnant twice on the first cycle after coming off the pill) -wouldn't normally ovulate.
From what I know, this is a widespread, but unfounded, rumour. I've heard often from unreliable sources that you should give your body a "break" from BCP every few years, but no doctor I've ever talked to agrees. I think you'll be fine.

I've only heard that's a rumour, too. I actually got pregnant quickly after going off the pill, but miscarried (from IR, is what they think).
Maybe it's only with certain types of high dose pills?
